I bought a Cingular Treo 650 off eBay yesterday (the seller was a local guy). It is currently locked for Cingular.
I plan to unlock it and use it on T-Mobile.

I checked the Phone Info and the IMEI: field is BLANK !!!
    AND
Entering *#06# in the phone results in an "operation failed" message.

Does anyone know what might cause this?

The owner had done a hard reset to return it to "original" condition but as I understand it, a reset shouldn't effect the IMEI.

Is a blank IMEI number the result of too many attempts to unlock the phone?

Is it even possible to unlock a phone with no IMEI number?

The IMEI can be found in the back. Remove the battery and you can see it. For Phone info to work you must have a SIM in before it will show the IMEI. I also had this Blank IMEI on my GSM unlocked phone if I did not have a SIM in. BTW I am on T-mobile.

    Thanx, tsy!

I poked around a little more and found another thread on the issue.
The phone has to be ON before the info will show up in the "Phone Info".

Fear of being trapped in a Cingular plan induced a panic sweat there for a few minutes.
    ...WHEW!!!
