    Ok, here’s what I have come up with;
My Card is a Ridata 2GB PRO 150X, when I format it Fat32 w/ either My Card Reader or
w/ the Treo w/ the Fat32.prc. I get a definite lag in accessing my 155mb Isilo doc.
It’s a pretty complex doc w/ links deep into the file.
However; if I format the Card Fat16, the access to the Isilo doc is back to normal speed.
So, even though the Fat32.prc works fine in Rom, if I want the access speed I had w/ FatFs.prc, I have to format the SD Fat16.
Now I will try it w/ my Palm 1GB Card, and posts Results.

I am getting much faster results with the fat32 driver.

VFSmark 496 before and 785 after. When running Office suite off the card it is noticably faster.
    I have a 1GB Kodak fat16
    PalmIII > PalmIIIx > PalmIIIxe > TRGPro > Handera 330 > Zire71 > Treo600 > Treo650 > Treo680 > Treo750 > Centro > TreoPro > iPhone 32GB 3GS

I've done some extended testing on the FAT32 driver against the 650's FAT16 driver using VFSMark & 2 SD cards. Results are pretty interesting. I have set them up as a matrix. Each configuration was run 3 times.

Any way you slice it, FAT32 filesystem wins! Great job Shadowmite & team!

Don't have a larger card, but might go pick one up. http://discussion.treocentral.com/im...ilies/cool.gif

I couldn’t find my Palm 1GB Card, so I used my Sandisk 512mb

Maybe all this doesn’t matter to others and maybe it’s Isilo & Card specific.
But, I get similar results w/ the 512 Card. The access lag is about 2 sec.
For those not familiar w/ Isilo, It is a cool doc-reader app.

    And I found the answer:
The Isilo Doc I have, came w/ this Note in “Tips”
(ALL PDAs) Reformat the SD Card (ie. SANDisk) to File System: FAT16, Sector Size: 512 Bytes, Cluster Size: 4KB, Backup: Optional. SD Cards will work out of the box, but will be noticeable faster (up to 3x) after being formatted for 4K Cluster sizes.(8k for 512MB cards) It has been found that SD cards usually come formatted in 16K cluster sizes which are readable but not optimal for speed on some PDAs.

So I guess my prob, is my prob, unique to certain Isilo Docs.
This also reconfirms gfunks answer to cadams question about backwards compatibility.
I guess what I would be interested to know is if I get a 4GB card and format it Fat16 for Isilo,
Are there still benefits to having Fat32.prc other than the ability to access Cards Larger than 2GB?

Works great! Programs run much faster off the card now! Thank you!

    Another Q:

How would the 650 format a card (in CardInfo) after installing this file?
    FAT og FAT32?

    Ciao James,
does it means that I can use one of your fabulous Custom ROM, go there and substitute FATFS.PRC with the posted FAT32.PRC?
    Is it correct?

    Thanks.
    Ciao.

    Yes, That's what I did.
    Used Shadows T650 Tool.
    Works Fine.

That's what I did with my Unlocked Gsm too. It's worth the trouble (if any)

Just put FAT32.prc in my customized 1.71/1.20-APR ROM, updated fine. Since I don't have a 2GB+ SD card, I only tried my existing 1GB Transcend card formatted in FAT16. It seems that loading an article in AvantGo (articles stored on card) is much faster.

    Thanks berdinkerdickle!!
Can I just go and replace the file browsing inside the James ROMs folder in my pc and then run the update.....instead of using the Shadow T650 tool??
If yes, is it correct to replace FATFS.PRC with the posted FAT32.PRC or do I have just to add FAT32.PRC?

The last question!! Is this going to allow us to read and write on both FAT16 and FAT32 formatted SD?

    THANKSSSSS.

To make it simpler for me, somebody please help me the answers:
    (1) Does this new PRC help to improve speed of my 512MB Kingston SD Card (not 566X, 80X, normal one)?

You have to use Shadows T650 tool.
Have You used his tool before?

There's also a way to make the switch like you said, by replacing the FatFS.prc w/ the Fat32.prc. But you still have to use the Tool to Build the Rom, so as to get the associated md5 file.
I'll go see if I can find it.
