Hello i'm a new user of treo 650. gonna be using it for the next to years cause of the verison plan... i got the cdma version not the gsm since it didnt give you that one. (i heard verison doesnt use GSM) anyways i digress...

Depending on how i get comfortible with using treo 650 i'll see how much i like it. (never used a PDA before but i'm good with electronics)
anyways right now i'm trying to do hotsync for the phone and computer.
I'm using the palmOne software to do the hotsync (maybe there's a different 3rd party program i can use?)
and when it's syncing windows asks me for password to access treo.
I DIDNT SET ONE on the treo.
Q: how do i set the hotsync password in treo?
Q: is it preset? if so what is it?

thank you for all that will answer. As i am pretty sure i'll be here often reading for the next to years.

Verizon doesn't use GSM, so if you purchased a GSM Treo, it won't work with Verizon. They use CDMA. Looks like you'll need to go with Cingular.

Are you hotsyncing with a cable or Bluetooth?

Isn't it verizon you are talking about???
Learning to use the Treo is not that hard at all. It's so simple and easy.
Hotsync...just use the palmone software. It has everything you need.
It is not suppose to ask you password if it's your first time sync with window and treo.

Oh yea. I forgot that face. Yea. If you use bluetooth to hotsync, then you will need password which you can set anything.

I'm using verison. so this phone is cdma. yea i know cingular has the gsm version but they dont have plan where treo 650 is free.

i'm hotsyncing through the USB cable to my computer.

(for syncing with bluetooth it seems like i use whatever password the other machine is set to. weird)

i have a few more questions...
the firmware appears to be Treo650-1.04a-VZW. Do i need a firmware update?
cause i've read the wiki article of this phone and it seems to be plague with serious problem (i dont like the sudden reset)

Is it possible for the phone to read the directory of whatever is in the simcard? i cant seem to find a way to do that.

    thanks

Yeah, you need to update. Do that as soon as possible.

    Hello Hyperion,

This is Kevin from Palm. Congrats on your new Treo. Checking the main Support page for the Treo 650 Verizon periodically will keep you up to date on the latest firmware/software updates, as well as lead you to the Palm Knowledge Library. You won't need to update your firmware at this point. The current version is 1.04 and you already have it. As far as SIM cards are concerned, CDMA phones do not use them, at least in the U.S.

    Sincerely
    Kevin

Maybe a better mp3 player? one with more functionality?
i've read here about zlauncher but i'm not sure what it does. I think it lets you launch application from the SD card.

any better calculator than the one it comes with?

Also any program that lets you view the directories and any file in your SD card woudl be nice.

zlauncher will also let u view the directories on the sd card as if you were at a computer
    several regular phones -> sidekick 2 -> treo 650 -> hopefully 700p

Just search in the forums instead of asking and waiting reply. You can find info faster that way.
By the way, very nice list JackNaylorPE

    P-Tunes is very popular

It's one of the things it does. If you want just that, use PowerRUN. ZLauncher adds a lot of icons to the screen, gives you the ability to add skins and a lot of other stuff which will take months for you to get fully familiar with .

See Message 11 for link on PowerRUN

See Message 11 for Link on SpaceTime. Also SpaceTime 2 which is $9.95 I think

See File Z and Softick Card Export in Message 11. Also Resco Explorer Shareware $14.95 http://www.resco.net/palm/explorer/default.asp

I have a question as well since I am also very new at this!! My signal strength has been less than adequate as of late in certain areas. When I contacted Palm, they suggested it is because I have installed third party software. The only thing I have added is Agendus Professional with Handango. Does this really effect the signal strength? And what about all these additional programs? Since I want to get a GPS application, I concerned.

I seriously doubt any third party app would hurt your reception, intentional or otherwise. You may want to do an PRL update to ensure you have maximum roaming capability.
