I dont normally Sync my Sprint 650 to my computer, but when the 1.13 update hit, I couldnt do it OTA. I had problems getting the computer to recognize it at 1st, so I ordered a new sync cable. That solved that problem, but now when it syncs, it will get to the Calendar portion and takes forever!! I havent waited for it to finish, but I have left it for 45 minutes one time and 15 for another! I know this isnt normal, as I have sync'd before! Then I went into the Conduits and unchecked Calendar! Same results! Any insight?

Your calender DB have been corrupted. You can try to download dbscan utility from pimlico to see if that can fix the db's, but most likely it will not:

    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/utilities.htm

The only way to fix this otherwise is to restore your calendar DB from the desktop. Follow these steps.

1)Use utility liek FilesZ to delete the contacts DB from Treo's ram. Filter "contacts" and then delete. I personally advise you to make a copy first to card though just in case.

2)right click on hotsync icon on task bar > custom > set calendar conduit to "desktop overwrites handheld"

    3)Hotsync

Your calendar db should now restore back on your Treo. Note though that any updated info on the Treo calendar db will be lost!

Now if that doesn't work, then it means the db's on BOTH the Treo and desktop have been corrupted. To fix that, you will have to delete the db off the treo's ram as described above and then reinstall the db on desktop. To do that:

    1)Goto Palm Desktop > calendar > file > export

Export all db entries to *.dba file. You might want to show all private records from view as well (it will prompt you). Export the file to *dba file and save

2)Now you have to delete you calendar db. On desktop goto c:/program files/palm/username/datebook

Delete or move all files from that folder to someplace else. I would move to be safe.

3)Import calendar.dba file you previously exported to calendar

4)set calendar hotsync to desktop overwrites handheld and hotsync

That procedure should fix the error if both your desktop and treo db's are corrupted.

But NOTE, try the prior procedure frist!!

I'm having this issue, and had a question. Shouldn't this be delete calendar DB, not contacts DB?

OK, so maybe it is contacts DB -- I delete the calendar db (not the datebook) and it totally skips hotsync with error: "Handheld Calendar application database version not supported."

This doesn't appear to work if you are using Outlook, not PD as your synch...(there is nothing to export).

There is a KNOWN bug in the PalmOne DM patch software whereby it hangs up the PalmOne (Calendar) conduit on deleted records so that either Hotsync hangs or the desktop calendar does not get updated.

There are two solutions; which one you choose depends on which version of the Calendar you want to keep.

    1. If the desktop Calendar is the more accurate of the two, follow the steps laid out by Gaurav above...although, upon closer reading, maybe you shouldn't. He seems to be advising the deletion of the Contacts db instead of the Calendar db; I would advise the deletion Calendar db, followed by the launching of the Treo's Calendar app to create a new, empty db and then following the remainder of his steps.

    2. If the Treo's Calendar is more up-to-date, then the solution is the CORRECT use of dbScan, as described here. Guarav linked to dbScan, but not the correct way to use it.

Thanks Bill...I did try the dbScan instructions you posted in that other thread (but wrongly used "desktop overwrites"

Would prefer to keep desktop, but as stated, the process didn't work when deleting the Calendar db. To confirm, the process should be to delete the contacts db not the calendar db, correct? (it just seems counter-intuitive)

well, as I had synced last night and only a couple of appts came in today, I went ahead and used the dbScan instructions (adding "handheld overwrites" to the sync, as it didn't work without that) and it looks like a complete sync is in process/no hanging.

I knew there was a reason not to move to the new Sprint ROM!

EDIT: well, that was no good!!! Took out a ton of recurring appointments!!!! Cr@p! I've used Backupman and they all show back up on the 650, but then when I sync (normal sync) it completes, but nothing gets added to Outlook.

Before I screw up the data further, what's the next best step?

You could have kept the desktop version if you had deleted the Calendar from your Treo and then launched the Calendar app...launching the Calendar app creates a new, empty db so that Hotsync has something to look at. Then, just sync as "Desktop overwrites handheld".

    Thanks Bill for the clarification!

One the main reasons why I have always restored from the desktop though is that dbscan often fails to repair corrupted databases. In fact, most of the time when I try to use it, it just resets my Treo. Perhaps this is due to a mismatch between the datebk DB and calendar DB as you described? I any case, I found dbscan to often not resolve the error and thus I resorted to overwrite from desktop.

Well, from all I've seen, the only really useful way to run dbScan is as I describe (and is almost the only way that the creator of dbScan and DateBk3,4,5,6 ever advises that it be used) - mainly, the removal of deleted records from the databases.

Thanks to all! The dbScan.prc worked for me! I currently have no more problems! Now that I have the 1.13 upgrade, I need to find out why I get a reset when I 'Ohk' the alert screen for text messages instead of "Go To"....!

Well, it was a big PITA, but looks like all is well.

    1) Used Backupman to restore the 650 and get back my recurring appts.
    2) then synched on a different PC at home (instead of usual overwrite, as it's a secondary machine) just to ensure I captured as much data as possible
    3) then ran the Outlook dupe remover program mentioned here http://discuss.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=106600 (which took overnight and found over 1,100 dupes),
    4) then did a sync on secondary machine, with desktop overwriting handheld
    5) then did a sync on main machine (work) with handheld overwriting desktop
    6) then went to do a true sync again and the hotsync looked at first that it was choking on calendar, but made it through pretty quickly
    7) Last, kicked myself again for updating ROM to 1.13A (as everything worked fine prior)
