    Hello!
I just posted the first BETA release of xWeather, a NOAA Weather Browser.

    http://www.moxsi.com/download.html

    A quick feature list includes:
    • Unlimited Profiles (Ok, lots of profiles)
    • Tabbed interface for easy one hand navigation
    • Current Conditions
    • 5 Day Forecast
    • Alerts (Warning, Watches, and Advisories)
    • Radar and Satellite Images
    • Weather Data directly from NOAA (They own the Weather Satellites)
    • Images can be Panned (Using Stylus or Fingernail)
    • Optimized for the Palm TREO
    • Customizable Weather Images (Specify URL in Advanced Preferences)
    • FAST jpeg decoding (native ARMlet decoding)
    • High Resolution (for Devices with Double Density Displays)
We are still working on image zoom, auto-updating, and few other things, ...but we wanted to go ahead and open the BETA to get feedback from YOU! We invite you to try it out and let us know what you think.

Super! I was looking for NOAA weather for a long time. I even emailed them in tha past if they could do a PDA version of ADDS.
This fits the bill nicely. Thanks.

Nice app but NOAA only supplies US weather, right?

Correct aero, NOAA is U.S. weather only.

Looks pretty nice. Couldn't connect to the server the first time but the second time worked fine. Also, for my first profile, took a while for the "Current" tab to populate. It was blank and then I switched over to Forecast, then switched back and it appeared. When I created the second profile it worked fine that time so might have just been a one-off thing.

    Auto-update definitely needed
Didn't also realize at first that using the 5 way to scroll right and left changed the tabs
    Palm III > HS Visor > Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 750 > Treo Pro > PrePlus GSM

i would like to see the auto-updating idea materialze. Also if my treo could warn me when weather alerts come on after the auto-updating would make this an app i would definatley buy.

    Thanks Scotty,
We will make a note of your current tab error.
    Auto-update is in the works.
We tried to make it functional with the 5-way...
Left and right on the 5 way changes tabs, up and down will get you to the profile menu.

Strange, I can't get it to download in Blazer.

    Good program!

I would rather have up/down switch profiles, rather than bring up the menu, since thats done with the menu button anyways.

I haven't downloaded the ap yet, so maybe this is fixed already, but on your website screenshots you have the word "forecast" spelled "forcast" on the tab label. You may want to fix this if you haven't been made aware of the error yet.

We will definitely consider warning the user about weather alerts. Several
people have asked about it already.

    thanks vregan,
You are correct... I had also misspelled it all over the app,
    which has been fixed.

    mpxsodev

Do I install both of the following:

    xWeather.prc [139Kb] - xWeather Binary
    pnoJpegLib.prc [ 82Kb] - Jpeg Library

    If so, what is pnoJpegLib.prc?

    TIA

    Yes TurboTiger,
You will need to install both xWeather.prc and pnoJpegLib.prc.
pnoJpegLib.prc is a library used to manipulate the jpeg map images
    used by xWeather.

    Looks great and works well.

One suggestion. I would like to see the % change of rain in the am or pm under the forecast tab.

Moxcidev, is there anyway you can add ceilings, cloud tops, freezing/icing levels...
How about adding a tab for raw format information for Sigmet/ T /Z and METARS/ TAF like ADDS does in Java that one can look up for any place.
These would greatly add to the funtionality and there are tonns of folks who would like it.

    Aviator,
We are looking at ways to incorporate more weather information into the app.
We are always open to suggestions, so let us know what is important/useful to you.

FYI, if you're thinking about real-time weather alerts you might want to give special consideration to being able to define levels of alerts as well as the radius in miles/km within which alerts will be provided. I'm not sure if this level of configuration is available through NOAA but if it is you should utilize it.

My experience with these programs is that the majority of alerts are either insignificant or outside of my area. And if we're talking about using airtime on a slow connection to get these alerts they really need to be meaningful.

In the meantime, do you have any plugins in the works?
