    Got a question out there for everyone else who watches movies on their Treo - probably most of you use either MMPlayer or TCMP... I use TCMP right now... And I'm sure a lot of people also rip their DVD's onto an SD card and watch em that way... much like I do.. Personally, I use Lathe to do my compression currently - and it works quite well. However, I'm curious about Surround encoding for our portable devices....

    Technologies such as Dolby Headphones exist, which allow a 5.1 sound field in 2 speaker headphone environment. I can't seem to find any information about how to take a 5.1 source and down-convert it to 2 channel w/ "surround" capabilities. I recently took a Diggnation episode (the one from CES - http://revision3.com/diggnation/2006-01-05/media ) and encoded it with Lathe and watched it on my device. They were showing off "Holophonic sound" which gives the surround field of not only stuff behind you, but all around you. It actually worked perfectly to my surprise.

    I guess the long and short of it is, with these technologies out there, does anyone know how to take a 5.1 signal and convert it into something we can hear on our portable devices? (Treo ) I think it'd be nice to watch a DVD on the train and have that 5.1 .. or at least 5 channel surround somewhat emulated.

    Thoughts?

    (Here's an MP3 Sample of the Holophonic stuff - AMAZING - USE HEADPHONES - http://www.holophonic.ch/archivio/te...Holophonic.mp3 )

    For stereo headphone use, Creative does a good job of this using the CMSS-3D feature on their new line of X-Fi cards. You could use Creative MediaSource "What you Hear" as the recording source to capture the effect.

    You'll need to convert your source files. You might consider using http://www.omniquiti.com/store.php to convert with.

    Here is an excellent guide:

    Guide To Watching Movies On Your Treo 650
    Me = Nokia 5170/Palm III > Kyocera 6035 > Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 700p > Treo 755p > Treo Pro > Palm Pre

    Wife = Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 755p > Palm Centro > Palm Pixi
