Ahh didnt see this forum when I did a search for sms and time. I am have a similar issue to you Schulj my sms messages are all dated 16hours previous than when I actually get them. Allthough its not all sms messages just ones sent from email accounts.

I solved the problem with the 160 characters. It has to do something with the sim card. Meanmusic said that it is probably a problem of the network so I borrowed the sim card of a friend of mine who is on a network that sells the treo. I put it in and with this sim card SMS worked fine. Afterwards I put my own sim card back in and suddenly I could write SMS messages longer then 160 characters again. I dont know if it was just luck but thats how it worked on my treo.

Thanks! That also helped me. I am back to message splitting finally!

Schulj or sydney_rpalmer dont suppose either of you have heard anything more about you sms time issue have you. Its pretty annoying for me I recieve a lot of automated sms messages from systems that automatically email out. I'm trying to open a ticket with my carrier to see if they can find anything out for me but unfortunatly our company rep has been avoiding returning my calls today.

I rang up palm support. They informed me that they're aware of the problem and don't yet have a solution. They said they're engineers are on the case and they'll call me back Monday. Sounds like this bug has been introduced with the new software and they don't know how to deal with it!!

I have no problems. I am using CarrierDB 249 and 1.71/1.20-ENA via CosmOTE. When I undated firmware, I used SD card backup as most of guys did. Everything works fine.

From following comments in this and other threads it seems the problem is with the update in combination with some carriers. I have been through several variations of the update, ENA, APR, full and customized and never had the problem even once. I am on China Mobile in Beijing.

It would be interesting for people who have the problem to post the name of their carrier and see if there is some consistency to the problem. If people see their carrier posted but have no problem it would also be helpful to know.

Even if there is a consistency it won't provide a solution which will have to come from Palm but at least people would know if it is related to their carrier and not caused by other third party software.

    Hi

I am in Sydney Australia, and have had the timestamp problem with both 1.20ENA and now LAP.

Im with Optus. But from the many other people having the same problem, I think its a region thing, relating to the new software. But I would be interested to hear if anyone in Australia has applied the update and does not have the timestamp problem.

I'll just chime in to say mine is working fine, just installed CNG upgrade to 1.20 with Cingular. I get SMS messages from the medical answering service whenever a patient or hospital calls after hours for a call back. Most such messages are 140-180 characters, and it splits properly when appropriate.

The issue with split SMS messages is not being able to write messages longer than 160 chars. receiving them isn't a problem.

I'm from Melbourne (Australia) with Optus. Palm still haven't got a fix for this problem - I spoke to them today!

Hopefully they get it fixed soon though its driving me nuts and I cant go back to the last firmware since with goodlink installed on the phone it was totally unusable locking up 5-6 times a day.Damned if you do damned if ya dont kinda thing. What really bugs me about it is that if I email an sms to my phone the times off if i text from another phone the time is right. Hell if it was the other way around I would consider it a very minor annoyance but alas no.

This is a strange bug in the update patch. I am using the unlocked GSM update from PalmOne (i.e. not a modified update). I originally did not have any problems with the smiley faces. However, all of the sudden, now I am having that problem with some of my chat conversations. Another interesting twist is that in the chat thread the smiley face does not show up, instead I see ":-)", but in the sent items folder, the smiley face shows up . Also, if I erase the chat and start again with a new message, the smiley faces return to the chat thread. How odd.

I spoke to palm again today. They said their engineers are still working on it. The only solution they are offering for this issue currently is for me to revert back to software 1.13 from 1.20. This is obviously a very disappointing solution.

Hmm figures yes very disapointing solution but that explains why tech support at my carrier isnt calling me back they dont have any good news.

timestamp problem here also in the philippines, irregardless of receiving simcard as long as the message is sent by Globe/Sun Cellular, then i have timestamp problem. when it is sent by a Smart Telecom simcard then the time is ok, i wonder what Smart's setting is that it is not affected by the timestamp problem.

cdboy, I just reread your post and understand now. I have a Smart SIM. I'll have to experiment with my Globe and Smart friends.
