Hi All, I wrote Slingbox about the possiblity of using the Slingbox for PALM OS based phones since it will work NOW with the TREO "700W" or the Window based TREO. This is the answer I just got back from their site today.

    [B]"Dear Jay,

Thank you for contacting Sling Media support.

Thank you for your interest in the PDA version of the SlingPlayer. To
answer your question, we are developing our product for all versions of
PDA's and cell phones. You may want to read up on what we have posted
so far at www.slingmedia.com/news and www.slingcommunity.com at the
    forums.

    Best regards,
    Sling Media Support"

    Carrier: Cingular
    Current BT Headset: Treo Wireless
    GPS: TomTom5 + BT338

They said it is in the works, but I don't see the words "soon" from there anywhere.

Only EDGE T650s have enough bandwidth to support it. So it probably won't come out till a future Treo that will have a different release of the Palm OS or some flavor of it.

So it will probably be a year or more out IMHO.

Well since I am not going to buy any WINDOWS BASED PHONE, I am willing to wait. The 700 "P" has so many short comings, and frankly lousy reviews, (not user reviews on this site, but critic reviews, that I will happily wait until there is one for the PALM OS and Sprint has is version of EDGE up and running. Palm"s OS works so much more seamlessly, than the Windows version of programs, that I will wait and that will be fine. take care, Jay

I think you meant "W" instead of "P", unless you've found some reviews of the forthcoming 700P that I haven't seen.

I like the idea of the slingbox, but, honestly, I've been pretty happy with my combo of Tivo-2-Go, Tivo-to-Palm, FairUse, and TCPMP. Sure, there's a bunch of steps there to convert and Autopilot helps with the process, but with the help of the TC forums, I've got the process for doing it manually down pretty well.

Right now, I have eps of Battlestar Galactica, The Flash, and the first DVD of the King Kong Production Diaries on my laptop, which I swap onto my SD card. One of these days, I'll get a 1 or 2 gb card when they're onsale, but it works for travelling to do the swap.

Heck, add in Pocket Tunes Deluxe, Adobe PDF reader, Versamail, and Blazer and I have a road warrior's survival kit in my palm (pun intended). For someone who's on an airplane at least 2 times a week, being able to pull out my entertainment device without having to boot the laptop is wonderful!

I love my slingbox. Works great with Tivo for watching shows 5000 miles away.. Transfers using the web server on the tivo just take way too long

Another cool solution is to use Videora to automatically download movie.video torrents and convert them to watch on the treo!

I can't wait for Sling Box to my Palm!

I've already used Win Hand to set my Tivo at home to record a show....so why not be able to watch the show on my phone!

There's a thread over at mytreo.net where one individual asked a similar question recently. Slingbox's answer was basically that the treo650 was not compatable (?!).

I would not hold my breath on this. It's interesting that the response from Slingbox in the original post does not really mention Palm OS - just "All versions of PDAs and cell phones". I know that should cover Palm, but I believe it's just another generic canned response from Sling. It's also intersting to look at CNET in the video section. There is a review that states that "now you can watch tv on any portable device" (paraphrasing). Note that apparently Palm devices must not be considered a portable device.

I just don't know if there is enough market for Sling to put a lot of effort into this. It's going to take a GSM Treo to work on an EDGE network to get accceptable devices. Not sure how large the market is of people with Treos that are on an EDGE network and are interested. Don't get me wrong - I would love to have this offered to me and my Treo, and I'm sure there many thousands of others, but is that enough to justify development?

    Just some thoughts.
