I am running v5.2 and I am reluctant to upgrade to v5.4 without some positive feedback fro those who have taken this path before me...

I have tried to STFA with a number combinations, but I'm not getting relevent posts..

Anyone have experience with the SprintPCS v5.4 firmware update, or can give some suggestions on searching the archives...

I've never heard of this "v5.4 firmware update". Are you talking about the PalmOS version number?

That's not a firmware update. That's a ROM update to install a newer version of the OS. When did you get your Sprint Treo 650? Mine came with PalmOS v5.4.8 on it already...

If you click on the link on that page for the Sprint Treo 650 updater:

    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...sprint_dl.html

that page has a link to the 1.12 ROM update. There is another update you can install after 1.12 and that would be 1.12a. Dunno if either updates a Treo that doesn't have PalmOS 5.4.8 TO 5.4.8.

This page from the Palm web site just confuses me. 5.4.8 is listed, but not for Sprint. As well, it says there is an OS upgrade available for Sprint, but that the before and after version of the OS are the same at 5.4?????

I have firmware 1:12a, and my OS version is listed as 5.4.8 on my Treo. Go figure. Maybe the firmware upgrades did update the OS, for I have not done an OS upgrade.

    Cheers, Perry.

I think that the yes just means there is a firmware upgrade but doesn't change the OS. If you click the yes it will take you to the 1.12 updater.

    Got it on December 10th.

Are the 1.12 and 1.12a updates recommended?

I have had no problems with 1.12. 1.12a is an update for the 911 location feature. I guess if you want to be found during an emergency, it would be a good idea.

I have the same problem. I have firmware version 1.12a, but my palm version is 5.2H. Does anyone know the difference between 5.2H and 5.4 (what plam says I should have). If it's major, how do you upgrade. Palms site is pretty unclear . . .
