Here's a new one. The 9-month old OEM Palm cable initiates Hotsyncs on it's own now with my T650. Haven't installed any 3rd party hacks that control this sort of thing, and it doesn't happen with the OEM cradle. The cable has basically been sitting on my desk and not subject to anything out of the ordinary.

Happens on initial plug-in, and will occasionally start at random while plugged in. The last thing I want to do is deal with Palm's outsourced tech support merry-go-round about this, so has anyone else had this behavior and/or know if there's a way to identify and fix the problem with the cable myself?

Could the button possibly be stuck?

    sir,
you better BUY a new cable and say BYE to the 9-month old oem cable because i think the defect is in the 9-month old cable's connector because there might be a short-circuit there and i wouldn't want to wait until something worst happens to your beloved treo before doing the best thing saying buy and bye.

Does the cradle have it's own cable attached that you can try on the Treo?

Nope, button seems to operate perfectly.

I seem to remember the cradle's (sync) cable is hard-wired. Anyhow, it has never initiated a hotsync on the cradle without my telling it to.

Actually, if the cable is the issue, it should be covered by the 1-year warranty. HOWEVER - if you've ever had to explain an issue like this to Palm's technical "support" in order to have them qualify your warranty issue, you know why I'd prefer taking a rusty drill to my head instead. That's why I'm hoping someone here has had the same issue, and just bent a pin (or something simple) to fix it.

If it's the Palm OEM cradle, it comes with a cable identical to the one supplied with the Treo (it even has the hotsync button). If that's the cradle you have, try that cable. That should confirm whether the other cable is bad or not.
