How many bits? what frequency? I am assuming mono..

Too much quality and the file will be too large and waste RAM unneccessarily. Too low a specification and it won't sound right ...

So, how should I set up my sound clips to be a good ringtone?

    Bump.

What specification sound clips do people here use for ringtones?

I thought that the Treo re-encodes .WAV files into AMR files for use as ringtones... thereby reducing the fidelity no matter what settings the original .WAV started as. If this is so, then I would guess (read as "I don't know") that the higher the quality .WAV you start with, the better it might end up sounding after degradation to AMR?

I'll have to experiment with the same sound clip, digitized as WAV files of different quality (and sizes), to see if they all get reduced to the same sized AMR file.
