Last week I purchased a 2GB SD Card for a Treo650 and it works for a while, however invariably the treo stops recognizing it and reports it needs to be formatted erasing all data. After reading many threads it seems that the best solution is to purchase a SD Card reader/writer for a PC and format it using FAT16 and create the directories below. This apparently will cure many of the problems with Treo650 2GB card compatibility.

If anyone had any experience purchasing a SD Card Reader/Writer which comes with software allowing you to format a 2GB card with the Fat16 file system, please post here, so we can all benefit.

If yo uhave specific experience with Transcend 2GB 150x please let me know that too. :-)
    Thanks !!!!

Details of relevant information from other threads:
    ------------------------------------------------
How to format from Windows: Execute the command “FORMAT H: /V CardLabel /FS:FAT /X” from the CMD application, assuming your Sd Reader/Writer drive is H

Make sure all the necessary directories are there:
    \AUDIO
    \DCIM
    \PALM\Launcher

eh? Did you format it IN the Palm? That is certainly best.

Yes, I formatted it in the PALM about 10 times now. It never sticks. I can use the card for a while, then randomly when I turn my phone on after several days of use, it will say that it cant recognize the card and asks me to format it. I am getting the impression that the format which the T650 performs is inadequate since it takes literally 1/3 of one second to format the 2GB card. I would expect it to take a bit longer than that.

No need to do a full bit-by-bit format of it, it just initializes the directory structure and such..

You might do a full disk format in Windows or something, then put it on the Palm and do another format. Dunno..

There are also some low-level format (write 0's to the disk from start to end) out there if you look around, but you'll also need to repartition it after. Might not want to mess with that unless you need to.

installed card export II into TReo , used XP to format to FAT, now TRanscend 2GB 150x works like a charm in treo.

I had a similar experience... Check here...

    Long story short...

First, the card may be defective...so consider getting it replaced.
Second, go from the cards packaging directly to the Treo and format it in the Treo...avoid the card reader if you can...
Third, download and purchase Softick Card Export...it will allow you to bypass the SD card reader and display your Treo as a removable drive on your PC.

I have had zero problems since taking the above approach.
    Technology Rules!
    Treo 600 -> Treo 650 -> Palm Centro

For those of you with flakey SD cards like the 2GB Ridata that I just bought from NewEgg (good deal at $99 by the way), save yourself a lot of grief and follow MikeM's advice. I was all set to return my card when I came across his post. Now works perfectly.
