no the headphone jack can't accept data but electronics in the instens pcb can hold the headset button for 1 second for play/pause, .5 second for previous .0 second for next, and all the other programmable features that the treo headset software offers.

woooot order is here on monday!

Hey, alright, I ordered my adapter. And they sent me the headset instead. It's OK, but I don't like earbuds .. and I kinda wanted the adapter for my noise cancelling headset for flights.

An email to them went unasnwered. I guess when the next free shipping coupon comes up, I'll try again.

Is the free shipping coupon in this thread not working anymore?

Nope, FREESHIP15 has been replaced by FREESHIP25 .. which requires a $25 purchase.

So from what I'm reading, I shouldnt expect these Insten to last. Is there anytihng of quality that does these functions or should I just buy a few of these?

Well I just got my Instens and they do seem pretty sturdy. The volume dial is standard and is like the type found on many headphones with built in volume control. The button is not raised so high that it might be subject to being accidentally broken off or something. It's an actual "click" button as opposed to the type of button that actually pushes in and out, so it should last.

I have a insten retractable hotsync cable I received free with the purchase of a non OEM battery and hve had no problems. Insten is of much better quality that the cheapy ZiplinQ hotsync cable I had for my Tungsten W.

A little off topic but something I discovered you may already know is that you can use the Seidio headset with MIC and a BT headset at the same time. IT's nice if you have you 650 hooked up to a cassette deck in car and still want to answer calls via BT headset. I though with the Seidio headset plugged in you would lose all mic abilities. Cool.

I got my INSTEN adapter yesterday and used a bit today. Seems to be working OK with MagicButton, although some funky volume things are happening....When answering a call while PTunes is playing, the caller volume is very low until I press the side button, also when I hang up and resume Ptunes, volume is very low again and I can't see how to increase it (besides restarting PTunes)

    Overall....you can't beat it for $3.99!!

    Any other experiences?

mszatny, that sounds like a conflict between magicButton and PTunes. I think I read something about it on MyTreo.net's forums, specifically the Toysoft forum.

people i phone complain of a buzzing noise, and when i put my hand over my antenna or move the treo/mic further away it goes away.

My Seidio 2 in 1 headset with the retractable cord just quit working. It developed a break in the wires going to the left side.

I had mixed feelings about the retractable cord. It was convenient to have the cord retract when not in use. But I didn't like having the spool hanging on the cord when in use.

I got the Insten adapter on eBay for a $.01 bid plus shipping.

I am going to pair it with Sony mdr-ex71sl headphones. These come with a short 18" cable plus an extension cable. I had been concerned about having a 4 foot cable hanging off the top of the adapter with its own long cable.

With the Seidio and previously the Palm hybrid headsets I had problems hearing when I was walking and there was intermittent loud traffic noise. I think the Sony in the ear canal design will reduce that problem.

The best price I could find for the Sony headphones was on Amazon for 28.99 with free shipping.

^ I'm using the same earbuds, my Isten adaptor comes this week I look forward to trying it out. I figure it can't be any worse than the sound quality in the new Seido Isolator buds.

The Insten + a quality set of headphones are great. I've been using this setup for a couple of weeks now.
