Excellent find. I just received my order today. I ordered 4 of them on 12/28 and considering the Holiday, the delivery wasn't too bad coming from CA to NY.

They are smaller than I thought they would be, which is a plus. I love the fact you can have a set of headphones on and have the Treo in your pocket with pTunes going and answer/end a phone call and also adjust the volume right on the adapter.

The best feature about the Insten adapter, is the ability to answer phone calls using a FM transmitter over the vehicle speakers and people can actually hear you talk. I was using a Seidio stereo adapter and audio out coupler which did the trick for a little while, but it quit working after only about a month of use.

I would definetly buy them again, especially at only $3.99 each. In fact, I might have to buy several more. I am keeping one in my SUV and one for my headphones. I'll probably give a couple to my friends since they want one after seeing it work.

Thanks. I couldn't beleive my eyes, but I guess this is close to the actual value of these devices, $35 is just rediculas.

Please elaborate on your wireless car setup! Im guessing you're using your Treo as your jukebox with Ptunes but im not sure.

Have you tested the headset software with the adapter?

I can't believe how small they actually are either! I ran into someone today at the mall who happened to have one of these. They really do have good sound quality coupled with Sony EX71s. Build quality was pretty sturdy as well. I really like how the actualy 3.5mm headphone jack is built into the control box unlike the Seidio one. The separate dongle at the end of the cable for the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Seidio would get pretty annoying as it would pull down on the headphones.

He let me test his and the call quality with its built in microphone was pretty good. The caller on the other end reported pretty clear and crisp audio.

I just now ordered myself three of these. With the free shipping coupon, my total came only to $11.97.

Now I can't see why anyone would shell out almost $40.00 for the Seidio one.

When I get my Insten adapters I'll try them with both MagicButton and HeadsetControl. Not sure yet which of those programs has more features.

Wow, that's actually my intended setup! Well, almost, the EX51s are the same headphones but with different cosmetics.

HE LET YOU USE HIS CANAL PHONES?! Wow, that's very brave of you and him. What did a stranger's ear wax feel like in your ears?

Well, i've tried 3 generic headsets which worked flawlessly on the trail version of headsetControl, I believe as long as you have the end/redial button it'll work.

I didn't use his EX71s. I had my iPod with me so I plugged my EX71s into his Insten adapter.

Again, don't be fooled by the size of the thing from the picture on Insten's site. It's pretty tiny.

It's too bad neither HeadsetControl or magicButton work with RealPlayer. I know HeadsetControl's developer mentioned awhile ago that he was working on getting RealPlayer compatibility in with HeadsetControl.

True, look at the headphone adapter for perspective of its small size. Can anyone pull up the picture of the Insten adapter side by side with the Seedo one?

I agree that RealPlayer has better output volume but Ptunes just has X5 the features and customizability. Why choose realplayer?

Also, how do you know "They really do have good sound quality coupled with some Sony EX71s." if you've never heard them?

I use RealPlayer because it doesn't take up any additional memory like installing Ptunes does. Also, I don't need all of Ptunes features. All I need is an MP3 player when I don't feel like toting my iPod along with me.

What? I'm saying this based on what I heard when I plugged my EX71's into his Insten adapter, made a call and listened a little bit to some of his music.

I cleared up my statement above. When I put "some" I didn't mean with just a select few EX71s, I meant with some (as in any old / arbitrary) EX71.

If memory is your concern, I believe you can get around this by creating a custom rom (search for shadowmite's website on google) and getting rid of Real Player; i think it's around 400kb while Ptunes is 600kb + 140kb HiFidelity high res skin.

Okay, I understand now! Sorry for the above confusion.

So is the audio quality as good as getting it from a straight adapter from the Treo, or does it somehow aplify or color the signal? haha
  17. #37
Well I've never tried anything like a straight 2.5mm headphone w/ mic. such as Seidio's so I can't compare, but it sounds good as long as you don't have cheap *ss headphones.

It's not exactly a wireless setup. I have the Insten adapter plugged into the Treo and an Entempo FM transmitter plugged into the other end of the Insten adapter. I use pTunes Deluxe to listen to MP3's or internet radio, and when a call comes in it automatically stops playing the song till you end the call.

No, I ment how do the headphones sound (how are they suddenly good, what relation does "sounds good" have with the insten?), compared to a straight 2.5>3.5mm jack without electronical circuits like the Insten.

Except that this is from Seedo = life span 30 days hahaha

You can also use your Insten headset as a remote for Ptunes.
Magic Button and HeadsetControl are two pieces of software that allow that.

Do you mind taking a photo or two of your Instens, in relation with the treo please?
