Anyone want to make a simple app. that when you tap the icon, turns the Treo's radio / phone on and when tapped again, turns the Treo's radio off. I've been looking for such a simple app., but can't find one. It needs to be tap on / tap off so that it can be assigned to any button in the button prefs. or to ZLauncher's quicklaunch+ or Hi-Launcher.

I know you've asked for this before...but I can't remember why you think that process would be easier than merely holding the red phone button.

I have a new silicon skin case that has a strip in the middle that covers the d-pad and the buttons on both sides of the d-pad. It's not as easy to use those buttons now without having to pick up the 650 and look at the buttons. I also keep my 650 in a holster and turn my phone off different times of the day. If there was a tap on / tap off app., I could assign it to the button under the volume rocker and easily turn the phone on or off while my Treo 650 is in the holster.

Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple possible uses...
    • Free up the "hold button" function for something else (e.g., pop-up hi-launcher) ... something you would do more often than turning the phone on/off.
    • Allow for a macro processor to turn the phone on/off via a program launch.

Freeing up the hold button function hadn't even come into mind, but that would be a good use for it as well.

It just struck me that I don't actually use the hold-big-red-button function to turn my phone on and off and then I started to think of why... Well, the answer is that I use Profiles and switch profiles in places where other people might manually toggle the phone.

Dunno if this might help in your case, IsLNdbOi...?

It might, but that still doesn't let me turn the phone on or off easily while it's in my holster. I don't know how difficult it would be to create an app. like this, but I've emailed different developers with a request for an app. like this. Hopefully one of them steps up and tries making it.

Hey, what about this idea... a way to link the hardware "mute" button to the phone state? When you put the switch in the "mute" position the phone turns off, and vice-versa.

That oughta work with just about any case.

Sounds like a job for.... ProfileCare! Ask Jeff for this. He can do anything.

Sounds like a good idea. But, at $16.00, ProfileCare is too expensive for me. My Treo 650 was actually a gift. I know we're supposed to support our developers, but I'm a poor college student .

The only apps. I have purchased are ZLauncher, Hi-launcher, and NorthGlide's NeatFreak Pack.

Most of the apps. on my Treo are free or shareware. I was hoping a simple tap on / tap off app. like this would be free.

if your using zlauncher there is a button on the bottom (of mine at least, T3StandardOS5) to turn the treo on or off

its a circle with a line through the top (vertically)

2Day Also has this option to make turning the treo on or off a button pref.

I know about those buttons, but we're not talking about turning the Treo on or off here. The app. I'm requesting here is for turning the Treo's radio (the phone part) on or off by simply tapping its icon.

I was about to suggest a simple app for you, but reading this...
I dont feel like doing this anymore...

Yeah, I know what I'm doing is not right, but it works and I've saved some money by doing this. I didn't find this out myself. I actually read about it here on TC. I wonder why developers haven't fixed this workaround.

It doesn't work with a number of apps. anyway since most trials aren't the full version.

    Hi,

Dont want to get into a quarrel here. Just because it can be done does not mean it should be done.

    Never mind.. Enjoy your Treo...

Ok. I've decided to stop doing it as it is a little inconvenient to have to delete and re-install a simple solitaire game every week . Now what simple app were you going to suggest?

I've tried radiostate, PowerUp, and TreoOffOn, but none of them do what I'm looking for anyway (tapping it's icon turning the radio on and tapping it again turns the radio off).

Mr. Shnitzer / TAKEphONE, I apologize to you and any developer that's come into this thread and has been offended in any way. I've deleted my earlier comment in post #15 and the trial prolonging method in post #9.

    Hi fellows,

turning on/off the radio module of the Treo is quite simple. You can build this application yourself using our compiler ( say HB++ ). Here the code snipet:

Treo : How to turn On/Off the radio module

With the shareware, I'd just delete them with uninstall manager after the trial period was up and use Cleanup to get any leftovers, then I would install the trial again.
However, if your application is going commercial, I doubt that you'll appreciate one do the same for your application. Isn't it?

    Regards,

    JPA
    The HB++ team

Yeah, that's why I retracted that statement and made an apology.

Cool so that code you linked to could be used to make that simple app.?

It would be nice to have just that simple app. that when hotsynced to the Treo has a standard icon in the launcher. It doesn't even need a user interface of any kind. The only thing it has to do is turn the Treo's radio on when the user taps its icon and turn the radio off when the user taps its icon again.

So why don't you make the app? you can charge for it and
    1. Finally be able to make some money on the side.
    2. Understand developer's frustration when people don't pay for your product.

    J.K.... but really, make it!

How do I make it? I don't know how to program.
