    Try a hard reset.
  3.    #3
how will i be able to transfer all the files back on? through hotsync or will i need to do somethin different? and will everything be the same? (as in, will programs have been 'reset' or no?)

Your hotsync will preserve your PIM data (contacts, calendar, etc). Unless you use a backup program to your SD card/CPU, your programs will have to be reinstalled. But that's a good thing. Do a hard reset, make sure your internet works before you reinstall apps, then install an app or two at a time.

That's not true. The Hotsync backup process backs up almost all of your files; unless one renames the backup directory, his applications will, in all likelyhood, be restored.

Again, just Hotsync after performing a hard reset; your apps will be restored.

That sort of depends on the apps involved, but everything should be as it was before. I've never had a problem with app preferences after restoring via Hotsync.

I have done countless hard resets and have never had a problem with apps following hotsync. A hard reset can be a treo owners best friend
  14.    #14
Ok, did the hard reset, everything works so far....EXCEPT ive noticed that one of my programs (ringo) didnt install back on...anyway of gettin that back installed? or what? after the hotsync it froze up i guess and was showing a 'please wait' screen for about 10 mins...so I did a soft reset...could that have anything to do with it??? thx again for the help guys

Open your /Palm/<username>/Backup folder and double-click on the Ringo file(s). That should load them for install via Hotsync.

Really? I just got my Treo, and it's my first Palm device, so I guess I shouldn't be giving advice. But I thought the whole reason backup buddy and other backup programs existed was b/c hotsync didn't backup apps. So why do people use the SD-card backup programs if you can backup everything to PC?

For one, performing mobile backups using a program like "BackupBuddy" make restoring your Palm on the road a whole lot easier, especially when you don't have your computer handy. Additionally, the HotSync conduit is pretty good about backing up all of one's applications, but it does NOT backup (by default) all of the PIM or preference databases. So in a situation when you've lost all of your data, having a mobile backup solution comes in handy.

Thanks. One more question... I promise if I have more I'll start a new thread and stop hijacking this one.

I've seen posts --mostly upgrading from 600 to 650 I think -- mentioning the upgrade procedure is the resync your PIM data and then manually reinstall your apps. How would you restrict hot-sync to just data-only? I looked in the hot-sync settings and don't see an obvious setting for toggling the sync of programs. Is "media" the item I would enable/disable for syncing of programs?

    TIA.
