Well, I was cleaning out my sms logs today after a looong time. I was able to copy all my important info and then I completely cleaned out and purged all the old and redundant sms logs I had accumulated. I think this was probably the first time I actually purged all me sms logs since I got my Treo 650!

Anyway after I did that, I checked my file manager and found that I still had a sms messages.pdb that was 320k large residing in ram? Anyone ever noticed that? Anyway, I deleted the DB and obviously recovered 300K of valuable ram. I found that very odd and wondered if anyone else experienced this...

i have never let my message go that long. i usually backup any messages i need and purge all messages everyday (memory freak). anyway i have noticed that, lets say i have heavy messages that day, when i purge it will still show like 11k but when i delete the message db and hit message button to recreate it, the file size is now 3k. so maybe since you had way more messages your file size was bigger after purging. make any sense (it does in my head )

    or

i also noticed that when i purge all messages in inbox, the messages i have sent but have not been replied to stay in the sent folder. maybe this is where the weight came from

Mine is routinely 400-500k as I forget to purge it.. Plus MMS in there, etc.. I've never purged mine completely, but I am with you, I don't think it should be quite so large. I save off my MMS pictures and delete those entries but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

Just to check, you did delete sent sms/mms too right?

Sprint uses a web interface for MMS so it's not true MMS like with GSM Treos. You compose using the Messaging app but when sent, it's uploading the pic/vid to the Sprint picture mail web site then sending it from there. Kind of like "short mail" before SMS came online for Sprint.

All your sent MMS messages will be at the Sprint Picture Mail web site.

I saved out all my MMS and purged my outbox bringing my Messaging DB down to 55k yesterday.

Of course I'm not sure the 50 or so SMS in there are 55k, but with NVFS and minimum record sizes and such I guess that's not far off.
