    gfunk. Any reason you're using Clockpop5 and KeyguardTime+... seems redundant and KGT+ is much more powerful

    Is there a small free-ware that allows launching different application by press-n-hold method with the hard buttons?
    I know of one that isn't free but isn't that expensive.

    http://www.standalone.com/palmos/quickswitch/

    It is well worth it one of my favorite apps. I have the datebk button set to 2day, datebk5, splashmoney, splashid, splashphoto, splashshopper, secondscreentv, daynotez, smartlist, slap, mydiary, fitness plus, teal auto. When I press the datebook button once it opens 2day. WHen I press it twice it opens datebk5 so on and so on. After a few days you will remember the order and if not you can hold the button and it pops up a launch list. I have all of my buttons set this way with atleast 10 apps. Great launcher supplement or replacement even and certainly the best button launcher I have used. I also have all of keyboard mapped to apps with the use of butler.
    A=Applications
    N=Prefs
    F=Palm insider Pro
    X=OntimeRX
    M=Mydiary
    H=Sounds
    I=Powerrun
    O=Sleep
    1=Voicemail
    C=Parens
    S=SecondscreenTV
    U=Initiate
    D=A-lex dictionary
    K=2day
    R=Contacts5
    j=DIr Assistance
    B=Call log
    V=Minutes Plus

    I have butler using the up and down volume keys as app switching buttons. I have the side button set for voice dial it. I have McPhling set to go back by holding the backspace key and to popup a most frequently used list by holding the period key. I have clockpop set on the phone key. I have crystal popup suite set when holding the 5way up key.

    You can change that if you want. See this thread:

    I had my side button working for the camera, but now it won't work with anything I assign to it. I had it assigned for profilecare, and ever since I deleted the program I can not reassign it. Anyone have an idea?

    The dark grey, unmarked button, in lower left hand corner of the key board surrounded by Z, S & A.

    Press and hold will give you access to a second set of button assignments for the hard buttons...You can set them by going to Preferences/Personal/Buttons...

    You don't need to hold it.

    I use HBX (Hard Button Extender - http://www.ranosoft.net/hbx/).
    This gives me 4 apps per button for the first 3 hard buttons (red
    on/off must be left as-is). Press-and-hold and Option-Press give
    me 6 apps as defined in the standard Palm Preferences.

    Phone button:
    Phone
    Web
    Contacts
    Messaging
    ClockPop (w/hold)
    Sudoku or other time-waster (w/Opt)

    Calendar button:
    SmartList To Go
    DayNotez
    Tasks
    Pocket Quicken
    Calendar (w/hold)
    Titrax (w/Opt)

    Mail button:
    Memo Pad
    SplashID
    eReader
    "back to last app" action
    email (w/hold)
    Ultralingua (w/Opt)

    Side button:
    Filez

    -Jeff DLB

    P.S. I find that the Butler "K-launch" mechanism is potentially useful but
    adds too much of a delay because it must first go to the Phone app briefly
    while you hold the key down.

    Will any button launcher give one click access to the network control panel in prefs? If not, does anyone have another shortcut?

    Netselect does this well. I use it mapped to option and the power button. I can switch between bluetooth and sprint vision easily.

    One silly Question :

    How is that possible? Do you go to Favorite and do it from there?

    I thought it would be interesting to post a follow-up to this...since I have lived with the T650 for almost a month and the setup is quite different..

    I am now using Button Launcher, which is integrated into Palm Commander, now a FreeWare, to map up to nine apps to each of the first three hard buttons....Power button can't be mapped...

    Button One:
    Phone, Launcher X, Camera, Vid Camera, Pics & Vids & BlueTooth

    Button Two:
    Calendar, Contacts, Memo, Tasks

    Button Three:
    Snapper Mail, VersaMail (can't decide which to use), SMS, Web, pTunes, and RescoExplorer

    Central allows favorites to be accessed while in any application, as follows...
    C-Central
    S-SplashPhoto
    H-HotSync
    R-BatteryWatch
    B-BackupMan
    Q-Softick Card Reader

    Volume Rocker is mapped for one hand scrolling in Blazer

    Side button, Voice Dial

    I second Aardquick. It works very well. I have:

    Phone: phone
    Calendar: Datbk5, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, pTunes, ZLauncher
    Mail: SnapperMail, Web, Cryptinfo, Pics&Videos, RPN (calculator)
    Off: Power, pTunes console

    I'm out of my mind. But feel free to leave a message.

    thanks for the heads up ...i have been trying this app ... it's great .... i found it simpler to configure than AardQuick, which for some reason i didn't like ......

    Button Launcher is a great app, simple , stable, and easy to set up ....

    my only question .... which is not covered in the manual (found on the same page as the link) is this...

    when using Button Launcher and other Hard Button based launchers is it necessary or preferable for stability issues to "disable" the "inbuilt" button commands in the palm preferences screen....

    i could not find anyway to change all of those preferences to <none> or <not selected> ...... i am just a little concwerned about this causing conflicts and loss of stability ....

    any comments on this issue are appreciated ...

    thanks all

    TealLaunch now supports many of the buttons on the Treo (650 in my case).
    It supports 1-key and 2-key launches, 'quick key' alfa key launches and many key combo launches

    My 1-key press launches (short instant, long with visual feed back):
    button 1 'Green' - phone , preveous app
    button 2 - agenda , tasks
    button 3 - <open TealLaunch> , messaging
    button 4 - off, phone off
    home - palm launcher
    menu - treo menu
    left, right, select - not changed, but short , long is possible

    My 2-key press launches
    (press <open> is first key press,
    then a second function or alfa-num key)

    second key (short, long)
    button 1 - expense, preveous app
    button 2 - contacts , tasks
    button 3 - versamail , blazer
    button 4 - memo's, phone off
    home - palm launcher
    menu - treo menu
    left - copy (does not always work)
    right - paste
    select - not changed

    second key can be a letter key too (lower case, upper case, num)
    p prefs
    b bluetoothr ask util (a DA, I use it for soft reset)
    t technition
    h hotsync
    w web
    q quic tour (I use it for a quick DBcache clear, sometimes needed for TomTom)
    e expense
    m memory info
    f filez
    y calc
    u real player
    i rlock
    o sounds
    d documents
    and 12 other apps that appear visually in a small window and I use less frequent, so it's point-shoot for those or upper case key launches

    I have never used the capability of button/button combos and button/5 way combo's: endless combinations, I think
