i have ben searching here for a while but haven't found a solution for the following.
while adding a new contact i want to avoid selecting on the dropdown menu the type of phone number (mobile, office, fax, etc). instead i want the contact application to show the phone numbers in a specific order, which means that i have to pre-select it somehow.

    does anybody have an idea?

i know that i can do this with a 3rd party software on the pc after having added the contact , but i am looking for something to pre-define the order on the treo.

    thnx a lot

    Here's one method:
    1. Create a new contact
    2. Enter "New" in the Last name field
    3. Arrange the order of the drop down boxes to your liking (for example, instead of Work - Home - Mobile - E-mail, change them to Home - Mobile - E-mail - Work); do not enter any data in these fields.
    4. Save the contact.

Now, when you add a new contact, open "New", select "Duplicate Contact" from the Record menu and enter the new contact's information; the phone fields will be in your preferred order.

You never cease to amaze me, Bill. I now call you "The Thread Ender", for once you have posted, there is usually no need for further discussion.

Except, I just violated that rule, didn't I?

    Cheers, Perry.

Perry, you've been here long enough to realize that the average TC poster doesn't need a reason for "further discussion"!

But, seriously, my "solution" doesn't help if one wants to add a contact via any other method (Directory Assistant, the Phone app after a call, etc).

With respect, you seem to be the 'guru' so may I ask:
The T650 Contact List shows primary phone numbers as WORK, HOME, OTHER, but I cannot get FAX to appear on that list, no matter which field I rename "fax". I'd rather not have to open the contact's full info just to get a fax number and as I often use "OTHER" for second work numbers, I really want to see "FAX" listed. Thanks in advance.

If you mean from the Contacts list of which numbers to dial, fax does not show up:

I believe this is implemeted from Palm, because they've decided you would not want to dial a fax number from your phone, since you would not be able to reach anyone or fax directly from the Treo. I have fax numbers in my contacts and noticed that you cannot see them when you're looking at the list of contacts for which numbers you'd like to dial. You can ONLY view these numbers by highlighting the contact name, pushing the center button and viewing the contact's information.

If there is a way to view the fax number in the normal contact dial view, please let me know.

Uh, yeah, wouldn't dial a fax from my Treo ....Just trying to save a few steps because I send lots of faxes and would like to see a customer's fax number without having to open the full contact details. I use my Treo for things OTHER than making phone calls. I would, for example, open the Contact's full details to get his/her address when sending a letter....
