I have just had the phone for about three weeks and have had to replace it twice. I bought the refurb from cingular and the first one I was not able to access the internet. no problem after talking with a tech all day they sent a replacement with me paying the shipping. Next one i got on monday and by wednesday the phone was shutting off by itself. what gives. I really like the phone while it was working for me and i need the functionality of it. don't want to give up on what seems like a good tool that has some quirks. could it be programing?

If you look around the forums here, you'll see that this is a symptom of an ill-fitting SIM tray. Call Palm or Cingular for one of the newer re-designed SIM trays; in the meantime, shim your SIM with a piece of paper (or a couple of pieces of tape on the back).

Wow... it's like Dejavu all over again huh <XJo? kv5137, let me give you a few tips on using the forums so you can avoid the likes of the aforementioned, NEVER use the phrase 'power user' or 'power potato' in your posts. Peeps be all over you like hair on an ape. Aside from that...

I've had a similar experience with my Treo650. If you skim through the forums you'll probably find some useful information. What's going to get thrown back at you over and over is that it's probably a conflict with some of the software you've loaded. Good luck.
I just want to thank everyone who made this day necessary.

Did you have a prior Palm OS device and loaded the 650 by just Hotsyncing to your prior device's userid? If so, we need to do a hard reset and clean install, as well as, the shim behind the sim.

    Cheers Perry.

Affectionately referred to in these parts, by him on a whim, as the sim shim!

Go slow. Use the the phone without any third-party apps for a few days and then add one app at a time over a period of time.

Then you will find which software is causing the problem. . . .

Also, are you installing 3rd party software fresh (as in a first time purchase install) or are you bringing it over from a backup?

    Install fresh --- the back up could have a corruption. . . . .

How may appointments, tasks and contacts would you lose?

If you delete all folders, off your PC -- you will lose everything. If you just uninstall the Palm Desktop - your backup folder and PIM data will be retained.

I am not sure you have to go that far back to the begining.

Just do the clean install, outlined above:

    Hot sync
    Hard reset the Treo
rename the backup folder to old
    resync.
You should have a clean trouble free Treo.
Add 3rd party software back, one at a time, one day at a time.
If it starts acting up you will know what software is the problem.
Install 3rd party fresh -- not from a backup. The backup could have the corruption that is causing the problem.

    Cheers, Perry.
