When i hold the off button, it says "Phone Off". is this status ok for me to change in the extra battery? or is there another step to 'turn off' the phone?

cuz even when the phone is 'off', the screen is still lit.

    thanks!

I would turn off the radio (hold down the red button), and then shut off the screen quick press on the red button. A Palm device is never really "off" as the CPU and RAM continue to operate even if everything else is turned off. I don't think you'd hurt anything by just removing the battery either, but this would seem to be the best procedure to prevent any unwanted problems.

Switching batteries has the same effect as a soft reset. I switch batteries twice a day and don't bother with turning off the radio before the switch - I just turn off the screen.

The cellphone 'side' of the Treo is a radio.

I'd probably exit any applications. No real reason why - just seems you would be asking for problems.

If I'm repeating what someone has already said look at how long the thread is and ask yourself if you really expect me to read the whole thing.

don't know if it is standard, but I hear radio used a lot when referring to a device like the Treo.

cool. not to deviate from the thread, but so, what's the best process to 'shut down' before taking / changing the battery out?

    Quit all open applications
Turn off Radio (sustained press of the red button).
    Turn off screen
    Change battery

yep. hey, i warned ya. NEWBIE alert. i was a little hesistant to pull out the battery while the screen was still on. Kinda like pulling the power cord out of your desktop while still at your Windows start up screen. Is that funny? Or, in fact, damaging?
