    Hi Scottymomo,

i'm attempting to do the 1.17 cnb update after a hard reset and with a clean user, so there should be no 3rd party stuff going on; i've even turned off evey conduit but the installer.

I'm thinking that maybe if i can get the 1.15 cnb updater to work then i should be able to upgrade to 1.17; however, i can't find a link to the non-windows 1.15 installer (the url earlier in this thread is a .exe and i've got a mac; i wouldn't trust installing firmware over usb using a pc emulator..)

Does anyone have a link to the 1.15 cnb updater?

    tx

    i

Since the update, after each sync with Cingular's server when I receive a NEW email, the 650 resets and turns the phone back on with the accompanying chime.
I never noticed this until you pointed it out. I had the same problem. I even checked to see if there was an update to Xpress Mail hoping that there was a fix.

My solution: Delete Xpress Mail and then reinstall. During the reinstall process, it told me there was an up date (I think this update has been out for a while, but it was newer that the OS wanted to install). Anyways, after installing the issue stopped.

Are you running client ver 6.3.8.10? or newer?

Sprint has had an update to their version of Xpress Mail. I am hoping that Cingular will update soon as well.

At what point do you get this message? After the update and after you've restored your data? Does your device operate correctly if you hard reset without restoring data? If so, the problem is in your backup directory.

The update runs after a few attempts, it finishes and the phone operates properly.

I back up my data and that is when it happens.

I had no problems with my backup directory (ever) before the update.

    What do you recommend?

First, look through the backup directory for any file that ends in, "_enUS" (.pdb or .prc) and move it out of the directory. If you find any and move them, hard reset and restore again. Otherwise, I can only recommend that you rename your backup directory (to, say, "backupold"), hard reset and Hotsync. That'll load your PIM data but no 3rd party software; then, reinstall from backupold a few apps at a time, testing as you go.

    Thanks.

You're talking about the backup directory on the PC?

    I found: Phone_enUS.PRC
Coincidentally, the phone app is the only app on the device that seems to end up in the above mentioned error message.

That's it; you must have applied one of those phone app overlays - that always causes a problem at this point. Move it out of the backup directory, hard reset and Hotsync.

Actually, if you've got a file manager, like FileZ, installed, you really only have to delete the Treo's RAM copy of Phone_enUS.prc to get rid of the error message.

Using phone.prc overlay files is just a bad idea; period. I just don't get why everyone goes for the idea and then scratches their head and says their Treo is a piece of C#$& when it falls over. The one file that is almost universally updated in a new ROM is phone.prc. How can the Treo be OK if there is an older version in RAM calling functions that no longer exist.

It's a total waste of everyones time. I put sugar in the tank and now it just wont start.... what can the matter be? Rant!

After applying 1.17 to my unlocked Cingular I ended up with firmware version 1.51 and software version 1.17CNG and an apparently LOCKED Cingular 650. I reapplied the Subsidy Unlock Code, but the phone still seems to be locked. I don't have another carrier's sim card to try, but before the update, once the phone was unlocked, under phone info I had an additional choice, "Choose network". This option is no longer available. Also I had DUN and that has disappeared, as well. Does anyone know how to tell if the phone is still unlocked? I don't want to get to Europe and not be able to use a prepaid sim card. TIA

Find someone with an AT&T or Tmobile SIM card and try it out. I would bet it's still unlocked. The CNG firmware doesn't give you the network select option in the phone screen like the CNB firmware does..not sure why DUN would have disappeared. Are you using a different phone overlay as has been discussed earlier?
    Palm III > HS Visor > Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 750 > Treo Pro > PrePlus GSM

When I first tried to update, the 1.17 update failed many times. Cingular passed me on to Palm Tech support, who had me do a hard reset and a clean install. Because of this I had to reinstall all my apps etc. etc.. So the direct answer to your question is, no, I wasn't, don't, have any overlays installed. Even with the previous 1.15 CNG, after I got the unlock code from Cingular, the "Select network" showed up and additionally DUN support, neither of which appeard before having the phone unlocked by Cingular with a Subsidy Unlock code. I don't have access to any AT&T or TMobile sim cards or users.

Am I able to download the new update and install it if I"m using a Cingular phone that I unlocked to use w/ T-mobile? Will I lose the unlocked feature?
