I've just installed that update and now I'm unable to start the Treo 650 at all due to some conflicting software, but of course those absolutely stupid error messages never give you a clue what can possibly be wrong. I've done two hard resets, synched via cable and bluetooth and here's what I get: Launch Error: THe application (which one???) cannot be launched becauseit is missing localization information. What garbage is that?
Anybody got a clue how to find a solution to this annoying problem?

    lgreenberg -

I posted this on another thread, but you may be have the same problem I have been having. I am going to contact Cingular data support to see if they can resolve this.

Since updating to 1.17 I have been experiencing very predictable resets. I am using Xpressmail redirector to push my corporate email from a Domino server. I have been using this set up for many months with no problems prior to the update to 1.17.

Since the update, after each sync with Cingular's server when I receive a NEW email, the 650 resets and turns the phone back on with the accompanying chime. If I happen to review the email already with a computer before the email is pushed to the phone, the already viewed email shows up on the 650 and no reset occurs.

The phone works fine otherwise. It just resets when I get unviewed corporate emails. POP3 personal email works fine with no resets.

Here are the apps I have loaded (none on an SD card)

    Adobe Reader
    Docs to Go
    FileZ
    IBM Java VM
    Resco Explorer
    Flight Status
    KB LightsOff
    KeyCaps600
    LEDOff
    PTunes
    SplashID
    SplashShopper
    Uninstall Manager
    VolumeCare 4.22
    Taxi Taxi Easter Egg

I'll post the fix if I can figure it out.

    DHart,

I don't use Xpress Mail. That's not to say our problems aren't related but that's not what causing my resets. I use Chatter.

Apps I have installed common with you.....

    Docs To Go
    KB Lights
    KeyCaps600
    Pocket Tunes
    Splash ID
    Splash Shopper
    Volume Care

I have several other apps installed as well.

Same thing happened to me. I updated using a temp user after backing up all the data by syncing to the PC and also using Resco Explorer to backup to the card.

I resorted to reinstalling everything (from the backup folder on the PC that I sync with). For me, I think it might have been LauncherX.

It didn't take too long actually. I installed a bunch of programs in steps, backing up the backup folder on the PC with every sync. I also just transferred over the "saved preferences" and "unsaved preferences" so that I didn't have to re-enter reg codes.

I sure hope others are experiencing the same benefits of the latest ROM update as I am... So far my 650, which ALWAYS reset ATLEAST 2-3 times a day, has been up and running with no resets required. Really happy with this update. Much better than the 1.15 ROM with that annoying dial tone bug!

How do I get my software (in phone info) to show CNG or ROW so I can update to 1.17 ?
  7. #247
Attempted update from 1.15CNG to 1.17CNG, got to the point where the software was downloaded to the Treo, and the Firmware updater was running, got to 85 or 86% done and suddenly beeped - 'Error updating Rom'.

Didn't reset, just went back to the desktop. I checked the Software version, still reads 1.15.

I ran a hot sync, or rather attempted to, and it errored out saying that I needed to 'recalibrate' my device and then attempt the update with a temp user...?

    What up?

Don't know but it happened to me. The only way that I was able to successfully update was to perform a hard reset then install the update. If this works, you may have to delete Treoupdater and DC from your device because it incorporated into the backup that will be reinstalled on your next HotSync.

    lgreenberg,

Definitely more spontaneous resets here. Getting very frustrated. Have disabled almost everything running in the background to see if it would help. Had a spontaneous reset at 8 this morning while running "unknown application" when the phone was just sitting there minding it's own business

    igz,

Check for 3rd party hotsync conduits trying to restore stuff to your device. Some 3rd party conduits are not hotsync I'd specific, so even if you create a new hotsync ID they will try and sync with your device, so you need to configure the conduits to "do nothing" once you create the new ID

    Yep.

    It's not good at all.

Yesterday my phone was just sitting in the cradle on the phone screen and it reset.

    I've got a Cingular (orange) 650.

I was running the 1.14 unbranded firmware.

1.17 update said that it wouldn't install on an unlocked device.

Tried 1.15 (linked in this post).. that update seemed to be going fine... I saw it download the firmware, extract it on the device... and then the treo just went dead. no lights, nothing. Tried removing the battery, etc.

Help? Do I have to send this thing back?

I've been lurking on this list for a while now, and I must say thanks to all for the good help and advice I've found here.

I've also been experiencing more frequent soft resets since upgrading to 1.17. Prior to the upgrade I was running 1.15, and it reset maybe once every few weeks at most. Now, it seems to reset at least once a day. I haven't seen any pattern to it in terms of which application was running (or that I used last) but each time, doing a *#377 shows that it happened in "Emul68KMain.c, Line: 456, line 1111 exception at address 73255016". I haven't changed any apps or settings, so I'm a bit perplexed. I'll try living with it for a few more days to see if any patterns emerge, otherwise, it's back to 1.15...

I had some resets directly after upgrading, plus my LED didn't flash green when the phone was on like it should have. After doing a hard reset to evaluate if the firmware itself was faulty, I determined that it was my saved preferences that were at issue.

I deleted my saved preferences files, added in all my registrations again, and things have been fine for 48+ hours now. It's working really well for me now.

As rough as it is to say, delete the saved preference file. Then go into your C->program files->PalmOne->(hotsync ID)->backup folder and also delete the saved preference file. Then hotsync and choose your old username. You will need to allow sufficient time for files to be restored. Soft reset, re-input user registrations and settings and see if it goes as well for ya'll

One of the likely causes for this may be the phone subsystem. Even when the Treo is idle, the phone subsystem will sometimes send out phone notifications for what seems like no reason. If you have applications that are monitoring phone events, this could be a cause for a reset if they are not correctly interpreting these "random" phone events.

The other cause may be email or IM programs that are waking up to poll for data.

Have you tried reapplying the 1.17/1.51 upgrade again?
    Might be worth a shot.

From PalmInternals, wonder if this one might be my culprit although Causerie's not set to run in the background.

My upgrade was a complete success, and the results are making me celebrate. Here's some of the benefits I've found so far:
-volume much better on the phone, but still using VolumeCare for the speakerphone
    -tones much shorter
    -battery lasts longer
    -bluetooth connections don't disappear
-phone seems to turn on quicker
    -reception better
    -Blazer seems zippier
    -all Palm programs seem faster
    -slightly less memory used
-no resets for 5 days now
    also in Versamail...
-Signature appears in the right place
-corrects common misspellings like other palm programs

Now if there was just a setting that would bring you back to exactly where you left off in Versamail, that would make it perfect.

For the record, my process was as follows...a few extra steps from what has been described here before:
-made sure to be 100% charged
-Used "SyncAll" to flag everything to sync, then did one final sync before starting the process
-After the sync, I went into the Palm conduits, and created the new Temp identity, setting all the Outlook conduits to "don't sync"
    -Hard Reset
-run the update, selecting the Temp profile
-when finished and everything is stable, hard reset again
-sync and choose your original profile...
-Now everything comes back, including all Outlook info
-You'll get some error messages that say certain things didn't sync because they were already replaced...ignore them
-if you use Exchange server for versamail, now you have to wirelessly sync to the server...it'll say that the sync failed and that you've got to re-sync all your messages...re-sync and there you are

Everything was exactly as before except for the button selections (for some reason).

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I couldn't be happier
