For some reason, the radio on my treo keeps turning off, starting last week, at seemingly random times, sometimes within 20 minutes and sometimes after a day. Haven't installed any new software, and the memory isn't full. I haven't actually seen what happens on screen when the radio goes off, though. Any ideas why this might happen/

It's not that it's crashing and not turning the radio back on, because the radio usually turns on with Chatter and I'm using an IM client that does not go "online" when the treo is restarted, and when I check, it's still in "online" mode, so no restart.

Mine has a habit of turning off the radio when the temperature drops. It does this for a few days then seems to sort itself out and no more problems. Usually notice it going outdoors from inside or taking it out of my pocket in cold weather. It doesn't turn off immediately but usually after a half minute or so.

Don't know if your problem is the same as this but if it is give it a few days to acclimatize. Hope it works out for you.

You didn't say, but I'll assume that you're using a GSM model, because that sounds like a loose SIM card. Shim the card with a piece of paper or put a couple of pieces of tape on the back of it; then call Palm for one of the redesigned SIM trays.

Mine is GSM, the SIM is shimmed and it made no difference whatsoever. A loose SIM will shut the radio off but I believe in that case it does not go through the radio off routine with the splash screen and tone though I might be wrong about that. Mine shuts itself just as if I had held the off button. It is also definitely related to the temperature change and can be consistently replicated during the few days that the problem exists. Not sure what changes to make it go away though.

At any rate, just because mine was not a SIM tray problem doesn't mean yours is not. Try Bill Gamble's suggestion as it may help and certainly won't do any harm. I used sticky paper labels to shim mine and stuck them to the tray rather than the SIM. That way if I go somewhere else and use a local SIM the shim will still be in place. You should be able to find some that are almost exactly the right size, I only needed to trim the one corner a bit.

    Good luck.
