    Hello,

I am wondering if Foleo can work with Sprint unlimited data plan out of the box or we have to use something like PDANet to trick it to use the data plan. Any idea? Thanks.

Well, we know that PDAnet is a Windows progam and the Foleo don't do windows. HP TC1100 tablets are on ebay for $550 right now...

My understanding is one of Foleo's main features is to automatically thether to your phone internet when you are out of wifi range.

The Folio connects to the internet via your existing data plan - no additional software required.

The Foleo (supposedly) DOES connect with Windows. That's what Jeff said during the webcast. If you mean run Windows, then I stand corrected. Regardless...

I would gather that pdanet won't be necessary, because if it WAS necessary then there'd be no point to this device...

The lack of pdaNET necessity has little to do with the pointlessness of this device.

Well, I have unlimited EVDO data plan with Sprint for my 700P ($20 a month). It will let you use 700P to do Internet access. However, it won't let your laptop connects to the 700P through USB cable nor BT to access the Internet. Sprint wanna charge you another $80 per month if you wanna do that. This is what PDANet software is for. It let your laptop accessing Internet through 700P by tricking Sprint to think you are accessing data plan direct through 700P.

Since Foleo connects to 700P through BT, does this mean I have to pay additional $80 a month to allow Foleo to access Internet through 700P?

That is actually a good question...

But in the "footnotes" section (small print at bottom) about web browing it says ( http://www.palm.com/us/products/mobi...foleo/web.html ):

1 Requires compatible phone with Bluetooth® wireless technology. Email requires data services on the phone from a mobile service provider at an additional cost. ISP and/or VPN may also be required. Within wireless service coverage area only.

2 Within range of Wi-Fi hotspot using 802.11b wireless connection. Some Wi-Fi hotspots require fee for usage.

3 A dial up networking plan from your service provider may be required at an incremental cost above and beyond the service provider's regular smartphone data plans.

I take this as "you need the $80 plan" to get on the web... but pdanet should be able to make their product work with foleo... I would guess. Plus, I could not see palm shooting themselves in the foot with cell phone providers... I mean, if cell phone providers don't pick up the next palm and go with another company (push another company) then palm foleo is a dead product anyway... lol... well, I guess it is suppose to work with other devices, but that can change...

The email they could get to sync with the device, so no biggie... don't need internet for that....

I guess we will see for sure after people start buying this thing... can't wait....

Wish it ran windows... I need windows for my business... and I was looking for a small laptop anyway, but I'll have to pass on this.... be nice if it had enough power to put windows in a virtual pc....

Why do you keep saying you need PDAnet? Just install the tethered mode hack on the Treo, it does the same thing, and you don't need software on the other device (laptop or foleo or whatever) to make it work.

Maybe because "hacks" don't always work the way they should... I've always had trouble with them... if hacks worked so great PDAnet would not exist....
