I've been a long time Treo user and love TreoCentral. I've just switched to a PPC-6700 and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good 6700 forum. Thanks!

I really like having a windows based phone and push email. The screen is nice and big. The camera (1.3mp) is amazing. I'm not sure about the slider keyboard. I really liked the keyboard on the treo. The size is pretty much the same. The 6700 is a tad thicker, but the footprint is the same. The charge/sync cable is a standard mini usb cable which is cool too. Give me a week or two to make a valid opinion on the phone.

Howardforums and pdaphonehome are the probably the two best WM smartphone forums fyi...

Sander, does it have a standard audio jack or do you need an adapter? Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences with the phone. I have my eye on that phone.

You need the same little adapter as the treo. I wish they would have put the audio jack on the top instead of the bottom.

fwiw, I had one for two weeks and sent it back under the 14 day return option.

Yes, I could surf through my encrypted home wi-fi, test at 700kpbs+ as a modem, take pictures, etc. But as a Goodlink user, I type out probably 100+ email, SMS, etc. messages a day. Sliding out the keyboard, rotating, waiting for the screen to catch up, then undoing after every single message just didn't work. Plus the flat keyboard is much less user friendly.

Great geek factor, lousy for actually doing work. I'm back with my 600, waiting for one of the 700 flavors.

You should really try the 650 then. It is 1000 times better than the 600.

Or the i730 - nice raised-key keyboard (flicks open one-handed with thumb), EVDO, WM5.0 after the first of the year.

You don't get push email straight out of the box, do you? I thought that you needed an updated Microsoft exchange server to do this. Even then, you need to get your IT department involved. Please let me know if that's not the case.

Not to bring this debate up in this thread...but a 1000 times better? Bit of an exaggeration IMO.

With all the bark and hype over 6700 I must say. Just wait before making the jump. I got it the second day it was out and returned back to my Treo 650 for many reasons. EVDO is at best sketchy in many areas and connecting was a big issue as well. The keyboard as it may seem big and easy to type isnt. Somestimes you cannot see the keys at night and typing fast you tend to slow down and wait for WM5 to catch up. Form factor on treo blows it away. SMS on treo Blows it away. Thats all im gonna say... 6700 is a nice geeky device but not as simply to do things as treo 650

i upgraded to the 6700 from the 600. took me a little while (less than a week) but i got used to it. love the evdo, LOVE the keyboard, full screen mode for browing using spb pocket plus is awesome, i browse a lot of forums and no more"this page is too large to be displayed" error messages like on the 600. i sold my 600 and signed a new contract with sprint so it only cost me around 250. i was pretty much done with the 600. blazer sucked, the constant resets sucked, all in all i was marginally satisfied with my 600 experience.

as for form factor the only time i miss one hand navigation is while driving. like 3 days after i got it i was driving on the freeway and the guy in front of me was sorta drifting from one side of the lane to the other. he had to adjust real quick so i sped up to pass him. as i looked at him while passing him he was there fiddling with his 600/650, glancing back between the road and his phone. i just shook my head because that used to be me doing that. im actually glad i cant do that anymore. all other times using the keyboard the 6700 is much much better imo.

as for usability i dont miss anything from the treo. i use my phone for amusement and not for business purposes so your needs may be different. i dont even know what "push" email is everyone keeps wanting but i get text messages notifying me when i get a new email in my hotmail aco**** seconds after its received so thats good enough for me to stay connected.

as much as i love the 6700 i will probably upgrade as soon as something a little smaller and thinner comes out. still waiting on a full java applet for browsing as well. that samsung phone with the porn on it would probably be ideal if it ever made it over here. the 6700 is so close to being perfect for me but it isnt quite there yet.

I picked up a 600 a few weeks ago and could not belive how antiquated it is. The 650 is really a nice device at this point- proabbly the best option for everyone besides the uber geek.

I just wanted to add my two cents to the PPC 6700/Treo 650 debate. I've owned and used Treo 600 and 650 since released so was pretty familiar with the OS and operation. While I liked the simplicity of the Palm it was quite effective at execution and reliablity at first. With the 650 That scenario quickly changed. The 650 gave me so many resets and random resets I suddenly wondered what i found so appealing about the device? While one handed operation is good as well as the hardware inplementation apparently software, third party as well as OEM, made the device very frustrating. I can't tell you how many I sat the 650 down in the cradle in the evening and wake up the next morning to discover the phone has reset and the the programs have reverted back to first installed state or expired with the settings lost. The Saved Prefernces File corrupted. Trying to track down the cause or softwares is erroneous at best. Enter the 6700.

While I use to use PPC in a handheld back in 2002 it to had its share of resets but only during use. Since then I've come back to find WM5 OS quite stable. More so than Palm. With the added convience of wi-fi, true multitasking, pdf support, larger usable keyboard it was a no brainer. But while WM5 appeared better on paper may, in real world practice, prove different in everyday use. Thats why I kept my familiar T650 just in case PPC wasn't ready for prime time. I must admit I was skeptical at first. Two years experience with Palm only versus a few days use with the 6700. It takes weeks to readjust from one plat to another. It simply can't be rushed. That 14 day return option loomer is distracting as well. After 30 days of use I can confidently say the 6700 out shines the 650 in most every catagory even in the one -handed "phone" section. Let me explain why. MS Voice command. Not to mention Bluetooth Headset Activation of said software to invoke contacts, dialing of contacts and numbers and applications launch. I only use the keyboard for entering pass words, logins and the like. Its actually quicker and more reliable than dialing by treo's keyboard. Or using Takephone software. Even asking "what's the time" keeps the phone tucked away while quickly getting the correct time through bluetooth headset.

Like I said, while trying to use the 6700, treo style, might prove awkard at first this is only natural. You have to discover the attributes not necessarily obvious at first look. While ms vcmd is an added software it completes what the wmd5 starts. Not to mention the 6700 comes with much more from the built in applications, word, powerpoint, excel, outlook, email, to the desktop cradle and leather case. And while my 650 still sits in my pocket resetting at will and the battery being completely drained by the end of the day because it froze with the screen on, I take pause and reassurance that my 6700 is ready to go and just the way I left it. I won't even mention all the other pluses that are covered here and there in these forum. Peace

Sounds great! I'm definitely interested in having a look at this phone - I lost my 650 a few months back
One major concern I have is with the sliding mechanism. Are you confident it'll last?
Also, anyone know a good place to have a proper look at this phone. I stopped by my local Comp USA and Sprint store yesterday and no luck. I'm in the Bay Area.
    Thanks!

I agree with this statement...it is 'better' but not that much better. Camera is still pretty crappy, the BT sucks, no evdo, same memory, etc. Better than the 600, yes.

tsd 1: I want the treo with all the benefits of the WM5. I will wait for the sprint version.

I'm visiting Dublin, OH (Columbus) for business and noticed a Sprint store. I popped in and whaddya know - they had the 6700. They only had the demo model, so my temptation to buy it was denied.. I was very impressed, in my brief visit with the little beauty. The slider seems sturdy enough, though with the security clamp they had on it it's hard to say. I like the screen... smaller than my current PPC screen but still 240x320 and plenty bright.

This phone along with Sprint's new PowerVision plan is a winner.
