More than likely you have seen this already but thought it looked interesting...

That E61 looks like it might be a winner. I don't know about those squarish keys.

I don't know why most competitors seem to be unable or unwilling to match the Treo form factor - include a keyboard without making the phone too wide.
  4. #4
didn't Palm patent the keyboard design? i remember someone touting that as a feature... they were so impressed with the keyboard that they patented it or something... so that would explain why no one is copying it. :-)
    Treo 800w 8/08

I'm surprised you guys are so quiet about the recently announced Nokia E61

if you ask me, it's more of a treo killer than the moto q. The E61 is nice, but I think the E70 is even nicer - a full qwerty keyboard on a phone that doesn't look like a tricorder :

throw in support for several push and pull mail clients, VOIP out of the box and the tried and tested symbian OS, and I for one am sold.

my next treo will probably be a nokia

Just curious what most people think. For those who haven't yet heard about the E series, check out this link:

I would love to see a Symbian based Nokia E go head to head with the Treo...

I hate to admit this. But I will be leaving my treo when this come out next year. The form factor beats it, and when I need the keyboard, it will flip out. It has 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth 1.2. 2 megpixel camera. What more can I ask? Check out the resolution of the screen, whopping 352 x 416. Was I reading the spec right? Browsing will be a dream. The only thing that will prevent me from getting this is its stability. But with Nokia's rock solid reputation, I have little doubt.

That form factor sucks. I don't want to have to lay the thing down somewhere to type out a message. The fact that the keys arent all the same size would drive me crazy too. All the other stuff (3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth 1.2. 2 megpixel camera) are great though.

(Ronbo: you're too fast...tried to post this message and you already had it merged ;-)
    Palm III-->Palm IIIxe-->Palm 505-->Samsung i300-->Treo 600-->PPC 6600-->Treo 650-->Treo 700wx-->BB Pearl--> BB Curve

T2, you don't have to lay it down to type. You hold it up just like a thumb board. However, you do sacrifice one hand operation when typing. You still can navigate the phone with one hand though. I can live with that.

Since majority of the computing world runs on MS, wouldn't Nokia have some sort of compatibility software to work with MS applications (pretty much the same with Treo Palm OS)?

looks like the motorola one. I think they are both too wide. Curious to see how the feel in real life

You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

I believe (despite its name) WCDMA is actually the next generation GSM high-speed data standard. It doesn't say on their site, but this is almost certainly a GSM line of phones.
