Has anyone ever rented a satellite phone? We'll be travelling to remote parts of Canada out of cell phone range and was thinking of renting a satellite phone to stay connected for emergencies, etc. Any good or bad experiences with particular vendors? It seems like the Globalstar system is the way to go and there are tons of places that rent them, but no way to know who is reputable.

I used a Globalstar satellite phone when I took a trip into the mountain jungles of South America. It worked great and sounded great. It was a bit tricky to find a signal sometimes because of nearby trees, but when I had a good open view of the sky, it was fine.

I used to work for Globalstar and had a phone myself....works great outdoors, but definitely sketchy indoors.
