I was wondering what smartphones are UMTS or EVDO capable? I read about Palm putting 3G capability in their next Treo. Are there any units now that offer this (plus wifi)?

Also, does Edge work on all of Cingular's towers or only the old AT&T ones? What is the speed of Edge?

    Thanks!!

I believe Verizon's version of the HTC Blue Angel is EVDO enabled. As far as EDGE on Cingular towers are being retrofitted with EDGE. In many areas the retrofitting has covered all towers. I get EDGE speeds of approximately 125 - 150 kbps.

VZW EVDO averages betwoon 200-400 kbps where available. Maybe 20-30 cities now. $44.95 for the unlimited data plan. You decide if its worth the money.

No, zip, and I don't expect to see this combination anytime soon, if ever.
You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

    I get between 400 and 700.

    About 35 cities.

I just saw this link on engadget regarding Sprint's rollout of EVDO. Looks fast and furious. If EVDO works well on Sprint, it should shake things up pretty well.
