    Hello everyone,
My family plan with T-mobile is comming up soo and my girlfriend wants to upgrade her phone to a "smart phone". But she doesn't want a Treo (doesn't want to look like a nerd, she is in the closet about being one!). Does anyone have any ideas? She has a Samsung E715 right now. She is looking to add her addesses, write some emails (nothing heavy), SMS, Calender (big selling point), and WAP.

I'm looking for a GSM phone (Cingular or T-Mobile). I was looking at the Motorola MPx220, anything for or against it?

Try T-Mo's flavor of the Nokia 6600/6620 or an unlocked version thereof. It's a dynamite smartphone that strikes a nice middle ground between "Treo nerdy" and "normal". I don't have a single reason to dislike mine on cingular except the lack of a QWERTY keyboard. Great phone and a steal at $200 w/$50 mail-in rebate from cingular which others may have, too.

I saw that, thought she may like that one. Only bad part is that it's a little big. Does t-mo offer the 6230? it has a small screen but basicly the same functions as the 6620.

66xx and 6230 not even close... series 40 vs series 60 OS is not even a contest. Symbian rocks. The 66xx is a great size--I overlooked it and bought a 6230 for this very reason at first. Could never go back...

EDIT: See my "Terrific Alternative..." thread in this forum for details.

scratch out MPX220. It's last season model. You might as well do an imported 'SDA'.

The 6600 is a good phone, but it's also not a flip phone which I prefer. I have the E715 as well and if I were interested in a smartphone -and if T-M carried it, the MPx 220 would be at the top of my list. Note, however, that there were problems with earpieces and cameras on them and I'm not sure if they've been resolved. Also, Motorola quality doesn't match Samsung's. Compared to the E715, any Motorola will seem plasticky.
You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

She wants the sidekick II.. but at $250 with a new one year contract... she can pay for it herself. I offered her my Treo 600 but she didn't want it because of the camera. I don't blame her.

I'm a "girlfriend" and understand the desire to have a smallish and attractive phone. Nobody wants to carry around something clunky and spells g-e-e-k.

However, considering her technical requirements, you might want to consider a PPC and a cute BT headset. SMS sucks but there is someone writing a program that will compare to the Treo built-in. If she doesn't do too much email, she can tolerate Pocket Outlook.

I have a XV600 with a black & tan case that matches my Dooney & Bourke bag and accessories perfectly. My sister also has one with an alligator case. This may spell g-e-e-k but it also spells c-l-a-s-s-y.

She might be able to do the same with a Treo 650 and a cute headset but Palms have a time zone problem and you stated that her calendar was really important. If she doesn't travel much, the Treo would be fine.

I got mine the SMT5600. She loves it. I carry a Treo 650. Her phone will do 80% of what the Treo will overall and it'll do everything I use the Treo for every day. The SMT is small but has a great screen, and decent battery life. Nice phone.

I would recommend either the SMT5600 or the MPX220. I had both for a short period but I found I really needed the keyboard on the Treo 650. Without a keyboard, both phones are small, though I found the SMT5600 a bit harder to type message due to the numbers being so close together.

    Good luck!

MPx only has 32 MB of RAM. Not nearly enough for a PPC phone.
