I remember when I first was introduced to the Palm PDA, I installed my first program in a couple of seconds and they all seem to work in the same way. However, Pocket PC is different and very confusing. I can't still figure out how to install an exe file that I downloaded from PocketGear

I guess I need ActiveSync install in my PC. What a pain! Plus each program seem to spread little files all over. I'm glad I'm still a Palm user.

It's just different. Having come from the PPC platform, I agree that it is more complicated than installing Palm OS software, however, not so much that any computer user wouldn't understand. Typically, PPC software comes in an installer program that you run on your PC and is installed over ActiveSync. Most packages also come in a .CAB file which can be installed directly on the PocketPC, without the need for a PC or ActiveSync.

Windows is bloated. A real hassle.

installing is half the battle. then you have to figure out where to find it after the install.

It's just like palm. If it is .exe, you gonna need a desktop (with activesync)

if you need to install without desktop then you have to find the .cab file.

what's so hard about that? Same with Palm. If it is .exe, you are not going to be able to instal it directly to your handheld. .pdb/.prc ont he otherhand might.

The program does not spread files all over. It will create it's own directory and a registry entry (and other services such as icon, remember itself for later unintalation, location in card/RAM/ROM, etc)

suskind & Klam said it pretty well. It really is not that hard.

Whenever you install a program you are always given a choice to install in main memory or on your SD mem card (storage card).

If you choose main memory, then the program in installed in your Programs File directory....just like on a PC.

If you choose the Storage card it is installed in it's own directory.

In either case, all file viewers show directories in alphabetical order by default so it is really easy to find.

Believe it or not I had a hard time figuring out my first install on my Treo 600 as well. Once I did one, it was a no brainer.
