Man, Treominator, if you want a real and HONEST comparison of the 660x to the Treo (since I seriously doubt you have even held one, let alone used one for more than a day, to qualify yourself to review "The Brick") go here :

Using 6601 On the Road for Week.....

You shelled out too much money for a brick
Lets see.......$600 for Treo 650 or $629 for 6601.....dangit man I did get ripped off!!!! An extra $30 bucks for Wifi capabilities, bigger screen with landscape function, 128 mb of mem, non-crippled BT, Voice Command support, 15 hardware buttons (including 5 way nav and 11 of them programable), etc.... What was I thinking?

I mean how many calls do these PPC users make in public???? 1 or 2 a month?? How can you possible call this oversized POS a phone with a straight face? A rugged, full featured PDA, Yes. But a Smartp-h-o-n-e ... HELL NO!!!
If your looking for fashion or to for that sexy look to close that date for you, then power, functionality, and abilities don't mean much to you. Prime example is I have fellow manager with the 650 who always made a point to laugh at or put down my 6601 until he had to still carry his laptop around on two trips we took together because of the limitations of the 650. I was able to leave my laptop at home each trip for the simple fact my phone has Wifi capabilities. Let's see....a couple mm bigger phone or a treo 650 with a laptop, bag, and all necessary accessories....which is sexier?

Plus the speaker phone on my 6601 was far superior to the 650 so we had to use my phone for each of our conference calls. Plus, since we were in a Roaming Area, he did not have any internet access options on his 650 so he constantly had to borrow mine with Wifi to check his stats and emails. Plus since mine was the only one that could sync with the BT GPS that we borrowed from a friend (due to the 650 crippled BT) we had to us my 6601 for all the navigation in the rental car. Plus due to limited memory I saw him uninstall two programs during the trips to add the another he needed.

It's funny that he has not said a single thing, positive or negative about my phone since those trips.....I think after all the guff he dished out prior to the trips putting down my decision to go with the 6601 over the 650 put him in a bad spot when he become dependent on the 6601 when his 650 could not pull the job. Just a single example.

If it flies like a brick and lands like a brick.... it is a brick
I have always recognized that every phone has it's target market that fits perferctly for it's customers. I know a lot people who love the 650, and rightly so, as it fits their needs just right.

Don't be so close minded that if it doesn't suit your needs or your personal taste that it is not a perfect solution for other more power users.

I am in total awe so far of my new Siemens SX66. As a former Treo 600 user I beieve I have a good basis for comparison, and boy is this phone not just smart but thoroughly intelligent. More particulars later (after I play more!)

just don't start putting all sort of weird sound effect on each event. lol.
I know a friend who put a 'hickup.wav' sound as a phone ringer. It's absolutely hilarious, but annoying as hell too.

    I quote:

I'm baffled. I owned a Treo 600 for about 5 months, and the phone app worked almost just like it does on the JAM. As a matter of fact, with the Phonedialer built-into the JAM, things might be easier than the Treo overall.

When you press the Phone button, press the cursor pad left to bring up your speed dial entries; press the cursor pad up to bring up your caller list. Scroll to the number you want, then dial.

The Treo had the same type of dialing...you press the cursor pad to bring up your favorites (speed dial, etc.).

What else are you looking for. For my most called numbers, it takes just a few presses of the cursor pad to make a call; for my contacts list, I use the phone dialer app built on top of MS's phone app.

I usually switch back and forth between Mission Impossible and James Bond for my ringers. The mission impossible one is pretty cool as it starts out sounding a phone ringing....

But what really gets the attention is when my phone reads to me what my next appointment during the 15 minute heads up reminder.....a really nice Voice Command feature when driving actually.

+ a cradle (Palm charges an extra $59.99 for theirs) + a spare stylus.

I tried to install those ring tones but the Mission Impossible and James Bond ones did not work. Only the buzzer and you've got mail worked.

Update: OK, the Mission impossible and James Bond are MIDI's, and the buzzer and you've got mail are WAV. Is that why it's not working?

It plays both Midi and Wav files just fine as ringers. I think the Ringers have to go in their own folder under the Windows folder. System sounds goes directly in the Windows folder.

+ a cradle (Palm charges an extra $59.99 for theirs) + a spare stylus.
Plus a nice stereo head phones with microphone. Plus a decent sideways case with belt clip. Plus the cradle comes with an extra slot for charging an extra battery. Plus a tank load of software.

I know, it's sad isn't it? I must be honest as I was kinda looking forward to Treominator's professional, well informed, and experience based appraisal of my response to his review of his showdown comparison of the "Almighty" 600 vs. "The Brick" 6601.

Wow: Forum thrust, parry, pounce and protect canít we just get along.
Itís like comparing a BMW to Mercedes you canít lose either way. It depends on your personal pref. Heavy PDA or Heavy Phone both are about the same price and features (now the T650 will do Wifi) so what are we fighting for? Now if you throw in EVDO which Verizon has deployed that tilts the entire conversation.

I tried the h6315 for a couple of weeks and I really liked an "old phone" ring option. Is that available on the Blue Angels?
You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

It's just a .wav file. find the file and put it in your new phone.

Thanks, it's good to know. I'll search for one if I have to.

I fully agree. As I have said many times before, I don't mind at all if the 650 or another phone suits a person's needs better that whatever phone I have at the moment as I tend to upgrade every 10-12 months. Just that they get an opportunity weigh the options of both with sound information.

I always just find it more annoyning when people throw uneducated acusations out there solely based on OS, phone, or company loyality with no bases of experience or truth because it can mislead someone who really is trying to understand what is best for him or her.

That is more of what I was posting against than any defense for or against against any phone.

It is available by default on the PDA2k... as well as the others I'm sure.
