I'm as ticked off as anyone about the memory problems with the 650, but since there has been a lot of comparison on this board about the 650 and the 6601/PDA2K Windows Smartphone, though you would like to check this out.

My favorite respone here in regards to the issue of having to use the stylus with the 6601 because the icon is so small is this one:

"On the PDA2K you can push the contacts button on the top left and use the down key(navigation pad) to scroll hit the center key (nav pad) to select contact second time dials. No pen is required."

LOL, I need to read this stuff every now and then when I think about 650s available memory!

What I like about [the PPC6601] is the relatively fast connection speed. With a DUN connection, I clocked connection speed between 110 and 144 consistently. The problem is the dun on my unit disconnects after about two minutes and I have not been able to figure out why.
    Bummer.

Uh...not to point out two obvious things but...

    (1) If A does X wrong it doesn't make things better for A-owners if B does Y wrong.

    (2) There is an entire forum to discuss B for all B - this, however, is the A forum.

    Seldom,

I wonder why you never say anything when people write positive things about the PDA2K or other devices.
  6. #6
    Why do you wonder?

    Why do you care?

Of what importance is another poster?

How come I don't discuss you?

Why is is that I don't care about you at all?

    Learn something here.

    ====

BTW - by the nature of your post one must assume that you think discussing B's fauilts does indeed resolve A-owners' problems with A!

    How fascinating!

And - if you now come back and actually address the POST rather than the POSTER, you have contradicted your original post!

    Ain't life wunnerful!

    Giggle.

Because a poster produces series posts. When those series of posts have an agenda that, among other things, collectively distorts reality, one can no longer address them one post at a time.

    Seldom:

I thought you were losing your edge, but you are just as clueless as ever. Keep posting these informative, enlightening "Seldom Posts" and some day you may actually post a valuable contribution to Treocentral - you know the old saying, even a blind hog will find an acorn; eventually.
Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.

I have to admit I got a giggle out of this SV post.

Great. Let's start a SeldomVisitor giggle meter. You know, kind of like 1 = Arnold's girlieman giggle to 10 = ROTFLMAO. I'm betting he'll peg-out the meter more often than not.

Notice, silverado, how you single-handedly ruined another thread by posting the first off-topic crap.

Please guys! (notice the PLURAL) Being right isn't everything. Ever hear of a Pyrrhic Victory? Lets stick to discussing the 650 and not each other. No problem if you disagree with each other as long as you stay on topic.

just let it go. Stock doesn't go up or down on the personal posts. 650s don't get delivered faster or start working better either.

    Midmofan, very good points.

Seldom was right in original post. Missing from the logic though is that if B does some things wrong, perhaps A was justified in spending the time and effort to get those things right. There is a finite amount of resources (time/money/etc.) available to these companies and they are putting out as good a product as they can. It seems like it's just that the entire sector of smartphones hasn't matured to a level where you can expect perfection.

Hey, did you guys hear this?

    "Ukraine Protesters March on Parliament"

Boy! That makes me feel a whole lot better about the 650 memory issues...

(Hoping this post is seen as humerous, not incendiary :-))

This post is reminding me of a movie "Gangs of New York"
This again goes to show how P1 need to address this issue ASAP.
We Treo'ians really truely love the product and want to support and defend it. If P1 looses this base; some other device will gain. Like "B".
There is still time before the holiday rush, and if p1 addresses this correctly this ship will be righted for '05.

If P1 loses it's base, then soon Microsoft will be telling P1 "All your base are belong to us."

(inside joke, not to be understood by those who aren't affected by the 650 mem issues).
Treo 755s in good condition available on ebay for $50-$75. No need to pay for insurance or buy a Pre.

True, but if I'm thinking of buying either A or B, I'd like to know about the deficiencies of both. Actually, I'm thinking of buying A or C (B is too big)

I think I posted on another thread, that I agree that there are issues with both phones. Each set of problems must be
    • weighed against how you plan to use the phone,
    • the past response to fixing issues in a timely matter with positive results
    • how wide spread the problem is.
Here is my point of view on the top issues that personally impact me and my decision with each phone:

TREO 650 Memory problem seems to be the highlight of it's list of issues. This is a widespread problem that apparently is going to effect EVERY user until they come out with a fix. This will mostly effect those who use programs the MUST use memory and not a SD card. I.E. Email, browser cache, a lot of updating programs that need to sync databases, etc.... I found with the 600 that I had to compromise my desire to use the phone how I wanted to or needed to because of lack of memory available, even with a 512 card inserted. This issue will only increases that, until it is addressed.

Time frame to be fixed, who knows. History has shown that P1 is often slow to respond to a fix, but maybe the fact that they have started to hint at recognizing the problem is a good sign.

TRE0 650 No Wifi Card Support. It is confirmed that the 650 does not support Wifi Cards. They say that they will come out with a driver, but we got the same promise a year ago with the 600 with nothing to make the promise come true. A Sprint National Manager told me that they were told that the 650 will never support a Wifi Card.

TREO 650 Bluetooth. It has been confirmed that it will be crippled. With talking the same Sprint National Manager, he said that GPS probably will not even supported. I know this is not a problem, as it was designed this way, but relates to my decision and to the PPC-6601 Bluetooth issue mentioned below.

PPC-6601 buzzing on certain incoming calls. I had this happen 2 times in over a 100 calls, to many for my confort. But I have not had this happen yet with my new phone. I have been following this closely on the other forums and it appears that this is NOT a wide spread issue, but with only a minoirity of the phones. I think this is a software problem and should be able to be fixed.

PPC-6601 Bluetooth issues. The main issue is getting Headsets to work with voice command and not losing connection when it goes to sleep. As far as the connection for modem, I have not tried it yet and have not heard a lot about it on the other forums, which is probably a good sign. I-Mate which has been using this phone for quite awhile now is aware of the problem and stated that it is all fixable with an update. So hopfully Sprint can play off of that.

PPC-6601 is too big, cannot nav onehanded, or the phone app is crap. Please see my detailed response to these issues at
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=62661

We do not have a base to judge the past response time for fixing the 6601 issues, but maybe we can get an idea with from the PDA2k, which have been for the most part fast and effective.

Conclusion: As always, it comes down to your likes, dislikes, any loyalty to a company vs usefulness to your needs......or simply just boiled down to the lesser of two evils.

The bottom line for me is that BOTH phones have issues. The issues with the 660x seem to be fixable with updates. While the 650 has several issues that may be more hardware related than software related, which makes it near impossible to address without a recall.

All in all, after using the 660x for two weeks, including on the road, I am very happy with it. I hope that the Treo 700 is able to learn many lessons from both the 650 and the 6601. They both have features that if combined just right would be the ultimate convergence device.
