Well, I went ahead and decided to do it. I really wanted to wait until I could play with both of them, but I totally started freaking out. I get crazy like that when something new comes out. I was hoping that I would outgrow it, but no such luck.

Anyway, I was wondering if some of "the people in the know" could help me by answering a few questions.

    1. Does it come with a backup utility?

    2. Is there an instant messaging utility ala' Chatter, Verichat or Causerie available?

    3. Is Outlook that bad? Should I start looking at other options, and why?

    4. Is there a utility such as Card Export? hmmm.....maybe it's not even needed.

    5. Is there an alarm clock? If so, is it loud enough to wake someone up?

    6. Ringers- are they loud? MP3?

    7. What are some good links for PPC? I have a few (www.insidemind.net, www.pocketpcthoughts.com, www.pocketnow.com, www.pocketpcportal.com, www.pocketgear.com)....oh yeah, there's always clubimate.com, but I fear that I need a device before I can enter.

I surely appreciate any help that you all may offer and promise to do the same in return.

I am so excited......the waiting is the hardest part (Tom Petty voice)

    Yes

    yes

    3. Is Outlook that bad? Should I start looking at other options, and why?
Not at all. I love it. What else would you want? It handles attachments, spellcheck, etc. Does everything I can think of.

    4. Is there a utility such as Card Export? hmmm.....maybe it's not even needed.
Not needed, PPC's become a drive letter in windows XP

    5. Is there an alarm clock? If so, is it loud enough to wake someone up?
    Yes, and Yes.

    6. Ringers- are they loud? MP3?
Yes loud. No MP3 but easy to convert and free. WAV & WMV native.

    Three questions for farzonalmaneih,

    1) I asked this in the other thread but I would like "a second opinion": how is the sound quality of the phone, both for you and the caller?
Someone in another forum complained about the callers saying that the sound wasn't very good at their end. I hope this isn't true, because I'm *this* close to getting one (it's between the pda2k or the P910 right now).

    2) During an incoming call, is it possible to only silence signal (=sound) without rejecting the call, so that the user isn't aware of the fact that you don't wish to take the call and in the meantime you're not bothering anyone with a ringing phone (another question asked already but I want to be completely sure).

    3) Does WM2003 have profiles (i.e. modes: silence, low/high sound, vibrate, vibrate+sound, etc....)?

    Thanks again.

quality is great for me... i just purchased a motorola bluetooth hs810, and it is wonderful.
also, I use Agile Messenger for chatting on aim/msn/yahoo/icq etc. (it is free)
Ever wonder if those FreeIPOD / FreeMiniMac scam sites work? Well, I found out Have a look at the results:

you can browse software here: (partial list)
    http://www.pocketgear.com/ppcw/softw...wse.asp?cat=41
    http://www.pocketpcsoft.net/php/newr...hp?type=mobile

pocket pc magazine also has annual software prize. (worth looking at, since most of them are prety much must have)

But ask around first, because phone edition is a bit finicky and each model has slight quirkiness. (pdaphonehome, hofo, ppct are good forum to start with)

-it comes with built in microsoft IM stuff (never use it myself)
    -AOL is freebie
    -yahoo is freebie

    see here
    http://www.mobigeeks.net/e/forum/sho...p?threadid=642

there are 3-4 unified IM things (I can't remember if there is freebie one, but two of them are definitely pay service)
