With the new Zire released, I am beginning to think Palm is getting it. This device is choc-full-of-features. Its loaded like a Tungsten-T minus the wireless but includes a camera...all for the price of $299. The Palm desktop that comes along with it is also improved and includes functionality with the desktop software to help you manage the photos on your device. Good Job Palm.

Now if only that color Edge would come out.

The new Zire does seem to fire on all cylinders. Brighthand (or was it PalmInfoCenter) said this is the first Palm to beat Sony on all counts (price, features, etc).

Palm did a wonderful job with the media on this new release. It's all over the palm websites, and the WSJ as well!

For good reason- the zire 71 rocks! I wish it had a keybaord - i mean it includes graffiti 2 - time to ditch handwriting! If it had bluetooth capablity (which it doesn't since the palm bluetooth SDIO card doesn't suppot OS 5) i might be tempted to switch.. that is until this rumored treo II comes out.

I've gotta say that I picked up the Tungsten C the day it was announced, and it's awesome. I never thought I'd like the thumboard, but it is so nice. Easy to use, and with the availability to add shortcuts, I should be all set!

The wi-fi has worked smooth as silk for me, and I couldn't be happier!

I'll be ditching the Axim soon, and returning to the Palm fold whole-heartedly! (ok, I never left as I still have an Edge...but you get my drift.)

Like the tungsten-c a lot too!
Keyboard, WiFi, 64Mb!, office compatible, hi-res screen..
Not sure if it can play MP3's but since it is Palm OS5 I assume it is...
The cam on the new zire is cool though.. so it the GPS in the Garmin PDA...

Damn Why cant we have a machine that has all for below $500 ?

It can play MP3s, but the audio jack is mono input/mono output (like a cellphone), so it seems unlikely that many would choose it for that purpose.

After playing with it for a few days now, I just say the T|C is awesome. I love the fact that I don't have any memory concerns with the 5x MB of usable Ram. Its sure zippy.

I never thought I'd love the thumbboard, but I really really do. The keys are the perfect size (personal preference), and I haven't found a function that I'd miss graffitti for yet.

All in all I'm very very happy.

If anybody has any question they would like the Palm rep, please let me know..

    Questions I have so far:
    -Why mono only???
-can you save multiple WiFi settings/networks?
-can you explain why the T-C has such great battery life?
-Can I have one (for free) ?

Don't know how the rep'll like these, but:
    1) Is the Zire 71 all plastic?
    2) Does the Zire 71 have flash ROM or masked ROM?
    3) Are there plans to upgrade the T|T to OS 5.2.1 as well?

    1. Will the price of the T|C drop in the near future, like the T|T did?

    and

    2. Can the wifi radio in the T|C connect with another computer peer-to-peer?

    Thanks much

    1) Yes (though there is probably some metal in the chips inside. )

I'm only talking about the casing, and the question was semi-rhetorical. I just want to see what the rep would say, because at least one has claimed that the back is metal. After seeing the internals pictures, though, it sure looks like chromed plastic, and after looking at one in a store, it sure feels/looks like chromed plastic.

    The whole case is plastic.

You missed the part where I said it was semi-rhetorical? I know that. I just want to see what the Palm rep will say. You've never asked a salesperson a decoy question to guage how much they actually know about a product before believing anything else they say?

You sounded unsure: "looks like", "feels/looks like". Figured I'd help you and everyone out a bit.
