webOS doesn't suck, and veer doesn't need Android. Veer needs an operating system that's supported and has a nice app catalog. I think everyone in their right mind would prefer that to be webOS but unfortunately it doesn't fit the bill.

    "Nice app catalog"? Cool joke.

I have owned a Veer since July, and even prior to Leo attempting to kill webOS, there was not a lot of app support for the Veer.
Wrong, in android is the x10mini pro the equvalence of screen dont you think??

Just because their are devices with similar screen size, not every app is programmed to run on every android phone. Those of us with Pre3s have even seen this with apps coded for webOS.

Veer screen is slightly bigger (.05 inch), a portrait vs landscape slider, mini has 240 x 320 screen resolution, Veer has 320 x 400

So even if you deem all those differences acceptable, you still need to account for how many devs took the time to code and test on a small screen device with low resolution.

Below is from the first article I found on the mini when googling for it's screen resolution.
Well, for starters, these low screen resolution devices suffer from the same app compatibility problem as the HTC Wildfire, so you'll be missing out on a small selection of popular apps like Robo Defense, WeatherBug, PdaNet, Tumblroid, and even our own Engadget app
I love physical keyboards... but there is two devices that would make me consider a slab, one is something running a full version of Open webOS. The other is an iPhone!!!! HA HA just kidding (about the iPhone that is)...

Guys, should we loose hopes of running the full suite of android?

/media/internal is heavily corrupted after uImage.install (which do fat resize, lvm resize)
/media/cryptofs is mount from /media/internal/.palm*, so most apps is corrupted too

i'm not sure what cause the problem, it seems the partition is already corrupted a little bit before uImage.install do fat resize (shrink)
it took too fast for uImage.install to resize (shrink), it should normally take some time to move data i presume. maybe the scripts in uImage.install never check if resize success and continue blindly? most programmers do it this way, sadly

for those guys get unexpected break doing "novacom uImage.install", you need stable 2.0 USB connection, you motherboard supports 2.0 but it could be unstable/interfere that prevent it to work in 2.0 mode. switch to another usb port or another box until your windows won't complain "hey, use 2.0 port for better performance"

    to install google service/market softwares
    1. boot to rooted webos
    2. novacom open tty://, get the shell
    3. do the following
    mkdir /media/android
    mount /dev/mapper/store-android /media/android
    cd /media/android
    unzip /media/internal/googleapps.zip

Followed the guides on the links above. It's now working -- including the wifi. I'm now trying to figure out how to install apps without Google Play.

youd need an apk and usb debugmode enabled so you can use ADB to install an apk.

adb start-server (or sudo adb start-server for ubuntu)

    then

adb devices (to make sure its working)

    then

    adb install YOURFILENAME.APK

that easy, well provided you have all the androidy stuff (sdk etc) installed to get a working version of adb, and ofc provided your not installing warez, trying to fudge a working version of google play is still your best bet.

With debugging mode enabled, when I connect the Veer to the computer, it is recognized as an RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget with an exclamation mark. Unless we get the proper drivers I'm not sure if we can push apps by ADB. The only way I can think of to get Google apps on the device is to include it directly into the android-rootfs.tar since we don't have CWM recovery for the veer to flash gapps.zip. I'm sure that putting the Google apps n framework into the .tar files is not as easy a dragging individual apks into the archive. That's why we need somebody with the expertise to step forward. As for the lack of SD card issue, I'm not too sure about the solution. Maybe partitioning the drive but that doesn't sound too safe if you ask me but I'm not an expert in the matter, that's why I'm just throwing that out there.
I was surprised at how responsive Android was on the Veer and I really hope that xndcn takes another look at the project since that it seems that it's been dead for a while now.

    Hi,
I want to try Android on my Veer.
I read all topic but sometimes I cant get some points. I have questions:
    1. When installation if I had a mistake my Veer turn a brick?
    2. After installation can I use andriod aps? (like titanium backup or other apps on android market)
    3. All my files and my documents will be erased?
    4. If I want to get back webOS how can I back?

Note: Sorry for my poor english.

    Hi, all,

http://xndcn.github.com/android-on-veer/english.html is no longer working. Does anyone have the downloads I need to do this, or a link to a website that supports them? I'd love to get this on my Veer.

    Sincerely,
    ~Ted
