So, other tech companies are copying features that Palm and HP introduced on the Pre (and it appears to be picking up steam), and considering that HP has decided to continue on with the Pre name, it begs the question.

Will we start calling this immitation PreNess Envy?

Sorry, but I thought the pun was good/bad enough to deserve its own thread.

And... I may have finally found a signature line I like...

Which features would you be referring to?

Maybe Microsoft and RIM got the idea from iOS' Safari card view, which was introduced in 2007.

There was multitasking in Android and BlackBerry long before webOS hit the market. Just Type has been around in Android for a while now as well. Synergy, I have no idea, it may be something that's unique to Palm/webOS but I'd have to do a little more research.

Synergy is Android's Account Sync with a different name.

My other post was somewhat sarcastic. Those were examples that I've heard many times around here...

Or maybe the card system was largely influenced by Apple's Cover Flow found in iTunes and on the iPod/iPhone?

Please do, but I doubt we'll all wait around and see if you can find anything unique to Palm that other companies are copying.

I'll also state, as I've stated before, that most of the design things are not completely original, but there's little doubt that other companies are beginning to do things that were not popular in a phone before WebOS came out with them.

I definitely think there's some PreNess Envy going on...

Might possibly have been "influenced", but those devices certainly didn't have the type of true multitasking in seperate cards we've seen in WebOS.

I'm not feeling the PreNess Envy thing.

The card metephor isn't new, but this form of multitasking on a mobile OS is, and that's the point.

Blackberry blatently rips it off, and Windows 7 does so as well (sans the true multitasking of webOS).

I have no issue with them ripping it off, as everyone in the tech world rips each other off.

It would just be nice to say so out loud.

"We thought that the card multitasking on webOS was groovy, so we copied it"

    I'd say don't touch it.

Can I say don't touch it?

If I can say that, that's what I'd say.

I think they are innovative because of the extent to which they are ingrained in the UI and lets not forget swipe up to throw the card away (and thus kill an application) which is the truly innovative part.

Also, every other implementation of this has been a static image and webOS actually gives you a live view of the application. I agree that it is evolutionary in terms of the whole OS market but on mobile OS space it is revolutionary and way better than anything else out there and you have to give webOS credit for it.

I think you're entirely too focused on our PreNess, and the desire for us to acquire some sort of detachable PreNess is ... well ...

    Ewww.
