This is the Nexus S -- Engadget

Anyone think it looks strikingly similar to a Palm Pre Plus, visually?

Now just need to picture webOS running on it...
Palm IIIc -> Sony CLIÉ T650C -> Sony TJ-37 -> Palm TX -> Palm Centro -> Palm Pre Bell -> Palm Pre Plus Bell/Verizon Hybrid -> HP Veer -> HP Pre 3 NA -> BlackBerry Classic -> BlackBerry Priv

It's a Late Goodbye, such a Late Goodbye.

i see what your saying.. but at the same time i dont

It's not like Palm was the first to have a phone look like it does. And you will see plenty of other people trying to do that design. It's not a bad design.

Well no, I just find it coincidental. It looks like a stretched Pre Plus without the keyboard.

Everything from the location of the camera, Google logo, and the capacitive touch panel below the screen (where the Pre Plus lights up and is touch sensitive).

It looks like the sequel to a Samsung I9xxx - which is what it is. Samsung actually manages to sell phones, why would they rip off a flop like the Pre?

the capacitive touch panel below the screen
where did you read about that?

In earlier leaked shots, the black space actually sports 4 capacitive touch buttons, so it is touch sensitive.

Is this the Nexus S? -- Engadget

And I was referring to the design language, hence the looks, not the phone itself.

If anything it is nothing like the Pre, hardware-wise (duh).

    Palm Pre 2:
1GHz Processor - nothing revolutionary in this day and age
5MP Camera - too little for today's market
webOS 2.0 (from 1.4.5) - not Android. Friends won't have heard of it.
Rounded pebble shape - ugly and not modern/edgy enough
    3.1" screen

    Google Nexus S
    1GHz Processor - super fast!
5MP Camera - enough for anyone!
    Android 2.3 (from 2.2) - a great update!
Rounded Pebble shape - classy, beautiful and fresh!
    4" screen

So, now we have proof: Palm's hardware specs in the Pre2 were simply too low to survive in today's fray. Not powerful enough to compete with cutting edge phones like the Nexus S, which was released just about a month later.

Buh-Bye Palm! Just waiting for dozens of people to post "if Palm doesn't release anything on the Nexus S' hardware level at CES, i'm gone and helllllo! Android!"

    Good point.

If it wasn't for the larger display, there wouldn't be any difference other than the app store.

    Good one ;-)

You forgot: Nexus S: available for anybody, Pre 2 only for the selected few...
  13. #13
    iPhone 4
1GHz Processor - state of the art Apple A4 processor
    5MP Camera - a whopping 2592 x 1944 pixels
iOS 4 - no Java or Flash to mess it up
Rounded corner shape - classic slab look!
    3.5" screen

Look what we have been missing!
    Palm m130 > Verizon Trēo 650 > Verizon Trēo 755p > Verizon Palm Prē Plus > TouchPad > Verizon Palm Prē 2

retina display and about double the runtime... But webos rocks
  15. #15
Sadly it rocks a gyroscope and front facing camera as well. The camera i do not care about, but the gyroscope looks like a neat novelty that maybe exploited in future killer apps.

They're pretty much even in terms of availability.
  17. #17
Yeah guys....those are the only differences.

Select few meaning those that have a credit card and are able to figure out how to go to the HP site and THEN navigate around that site AND fill in the required fields AND have an address to ship it to?

    sounds difficult.

way to compare hardware vs software....the display has what exactly to do with the OS? and the battery falls under this too? (i work out of a truck ALL day, my phone is plugged in ALL day, the battery life has ZERO factor for me)
  20. #20
Yep, just throw webOS on a 4" slab, sit back, and profit right?

That webOS google maps app will look killer. Imagine the palm music player in action. And the buggy kb that pops up? Just revolutionary.
