I look at the many people I know that dropped their Pre for the Hero only to pick up the Pre again at the first of the year.

It is really fun to watch...

I think there are many that will regret buying an EVO even before the new WebOS device comes out. The Android UI just can't compare to the ease, elegance and functionality of WebOS. Not having a physical keyboard will be another thing many will miss. Not having all the latest 3D games will be another thing many will miss. Not getting updates in a timely manner will be a pick sticking point for many. The size of the thing will be a problem for some. Terrible integration with MS Exchange servers will drive many of the business users crazy. Lack of synergy will be a problem for many.

The EVO is a very cool device but its only as good as the Android OS that runs on it. In my book that makes it not as good as the Pre.

They will only announce a new phone prior to the EVO release if it is not going to Sprint.

I thought phones were suppose to get smaller. ni don't get the EVO for a cell phone, maybe for an Multimedia player or something for the car but man. I need a murse just to carry that thing. No way it will ever fit in my pocket.

iphone is too big as well.

    Pre is perfect for me.

If they want to keep a lot of us around, they had better do it. I just want a faster processor and a bigger screen. Come on Palm PLEASE!

I would guess that with the AT&T release of the Pre and the Evo on Sprint being so close together, Palm won't "ruffle the feathers" at AT&T by announcing a new device so close to the initial release of the AT&T Pre.

I am just curious...how many Pre users will be dumping Palm for the EVO? I have gone back and forth, but when i had my phone in my pocket and leaned against the seat lightly and it cracked my THIRD Pre screen...I decided to dump the Pre (solely due to the hardware) It is pretty evident that Palm, as a struggling company, put more work into the OS than the hardware...

Rightly so...however, the screen wobbles out of the box?? Really?? I have had about 6 separate issues due to the poor form factor and materials. Anyway, good thing HP is taking over...perhaps they can influence Palm to dump the Pre and Pixi and recycle the WebOS platform....and hopefully rescue it from imminent failure...I mean, Android 2.1 can do nearly everything the Pre can (sans multitasking (which is vry very limited anyway....but with more power. )

Oh yea....3G? An old standard and thus to be obsoleted in nearly the amount of time that the Pre has been out...for Sprint anyway.

Anyway...just curious how many are switching....and why?

of course that seems more than likely...

... but, it would be awesome if there was an announcement beforehand. better for consumers and phone line-up for sprint wouldn't seem as bad as it actually is.

i'd like it more just to see these emos4evos backtrack and stay w/palm.

Most likely, there is a review by HP going on regarding future devices. I imagine they will wait for the iPhone to come out this time and not try to compete against the iPhone 3GS when it will be obsolete. HP doesn't work that way.

It is much better to find out what the competition will be rather than competing with old tech.

Imagine Apple coming out with the following -

iPhone 4G --- Better than the Moto Razr.

Sounds dumb, but that (in essense anyway) is what Palm did last year.

This year, they need to let the competition show their cards first and then one up them on the hardware. The OS already speaks for itself, but hardware is where improvements need to be made. My opinion...

I'm very intrigued by the EVO and am considering switching to it in July when I'm up for renewal. My main concern, and yes this concern is not EVO-specific, is if dust can get under the screen area.

My GF's Hero has dust under the screen that is even visible when the screen is on and she keeps hers in a purse as opposed to me putting it in my pocket, which should be a dustier environment.

The EVO is such a beautiful large device that I wouldn't want to tarnish with unsightly dust every time I look at the screen.

My guess is that this will not be a problem. I haven't heard any issues with the HD2, which is essentially the same hardware.

The Evo's screen will kinda suck IMO. 217 ppi or so? That's not much better than the Pre's already sharp screen. Plus the Evo only has 16bit compared to the Pre's 24bit colors.

I'm hoping the rumor of the new iphone having 960x640 pans out. Now that's a real upgrade if true. 330 or more ppi? Print magazine quality text? http://www.tipb.com/2010/05/17/iphon...million-units/
