A new Palm picture has been leaked. With a hideable Grafitti area, this thing is going to be miniscule. If it is as thick as the M5xx series WOW!

Actually, this is going to be just slightly smaller than an m515 with the graffiti closed - and extremely long with it open. I doubt this is as thin as the m515, considering the sliding mechanism, and technology to make it work.

I don't like it. I've been spoilt by a BlackBerry. My next Palm OS device is going to have a keyboard. No more Graffiti (or Fitaly or whatever) for me...

Does anybody think that the Graffiti area might be virtual and the picture is a "rouse"? Why have a form factor that has a hidden graffiti area and is slightly smaller when "closed" then a M515.

I'm just wondering if there isn't a little pre-release hype going on with an alledged picture being released to see what traffic occurs on the boards.

But don't mind me - I'm always a little paranoid ever since my car blew up for no apparent reason after I made comments about the local Gary Condit problems.

    Why hide the graffiti area?

I see not much point in hiding it, it'll just make things clumsier. Slide to hide, and slide to write. Too much work for me there, prefer to just write without sliding here and there. Unless they came out with an ingenius way of auto-sliding out when the stylus is pulled out and autosliding in when it's put back in. Hey, come to think of it, it could be what it was designed to do.

Why not a virtual graffiti area that doubles as more screen space? Its more practical.

If it's space saving they want to achieve, they can just do it by tucking the edges around screen and bottom a little bit closer. Especially the bottom - too much wasted space there.

    Just my 2 cents.

Heheh. Well, I shoudl think before I talk. The sliding thing doesn't really do all that much for me anymore. I guess it all hinges on how much you can do with the buttons and direction pad.

The whole picture looks suspicious. I think it's a fake. That said, if it was real, it looks like it is going to be wireless because it has a favorites button on the graffiti pad. But the scroll buttons replacement looks like something you'd find on a PPC and not a Palm....hmmmm....also Palm has never displayed their logo like that on the top of their handhelds...oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm not certain but if the photo was too far off of reality then Palm wouldn't have been so quick to have it pulled from the original site.

With regards to the "scroll buttons" - it's safe to assume that this device is going to be running Palm OS 5.0 which will support multi-tasking and this may be the way for the user to access an open program. The PDA Buzz picture does look fake but the original at Pocket PC Thoughts looked quite a bit more believable.

Only time will tell and the world keeps turning regardless.

How do we know Palm asked for it to be removed from the original site? All we have is their word for it. I find it odd how it has not been asked to be removed from PIC, a much larger Palm site...

You are correct however, what reason would Pocket PC Thoughts have to lie. I have no reasonable explanation other than perhaps Palm would prefer to have the image on a "Palm" site. Also, it may now be a problem since the original photo may very well be posted outside the USA in the THUG. Palm's lawyer's may have backed off assuming that they can't "get everyone" that has since posted the site.

It's interesting to me that PDABuzz has very poor renderings compared to the picture at PIC. PIC is now referencing the THPUG photo as apparently the original. This group has in the past referenced new hardware before so I'm wondering if this isn't accurate.

On a seperate note: The new scroll button might also contain a microphone ala some of the iPaq's? Perhaps hits hidden behind the buttons....but I can speculate forever.

I'm still awaiting a Palm Phone convergent device that works on AT&T network....

It should be noted that the PDABuzz picture is _admittedly_ not real. It's a designer's conception. Also, in case no one's followed closely, the picture on the various sites _is_ likely a real picture. The metadata in the .jpg seems too detailed for someone to have bothered faking. Also, the track record of these leaks is pretty solid. The only time I can think of that such a picture has been proven to be fake is the Mac PDA. All of the others get picked apart by Photoshop 'experts' who are then proven wrong within a few months.

As best I can tell, this is definitely real. The only questions that remain are....how much, how soon, and what new features will it have.

This is the first Palm brand PDA that has impressed me in a LONG time.

Question: Have we EVER seen before leaked photos of PDAs in the works that have their codenames written on the top of it? Seems strange to me.

It is (the 'skywalker' codename of the i705 was on a sticker on the back), but we don't know yet that this is a codename. It might very well be what they're going to call it in retail. Maybe Palm has decided to get away from part numbering schemes.

Next to the name "Oslo," there is a rectangular area which is a little blurry, like someone did a little pictorial alteration. I wonder what it was...

    It's just a serial number.

In addition, if you look at PIC, there's a link to the Thai PUG where they show a version with the non-obfuscated serial number.

According to this article: http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_Story.asp?ID=3852 actual specifications of the Oslo are surfacing from anonymous sources...maybe it is real...
