Bounced around phones for past several years. Thought I had finally found a home in the Iphone but AT&Ts dropped calls were UNBEARABLE particularly in rural unpopulated areas like New York City, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Washington DC etc.

So paid off ATT and dove back into Verizon landing on the Eris. Have it working ok and it accomplishes the stuff i need but man it is just BLAH. Not sure how else to describe it other than the thing is strange to use. Now that the Pre Plus has landed on Verizon was thinking of picking one up for (sigh) full price.

Have not found anyone really posting about a similar switch. One thing i loved aobut the iphone was the browser, just seemed to work so well that i would even use it INSTEAD of my laptop. not so with the Eris...the browser is just LOUSY.

Not concerned about hacking (done that with Iphone etc.) just want a phone i get excited about (like the iphone, but that works as a phone).

    Eris converts?

I jumped from the Moto Droid, after dumping the Eris. Well I dumped the Droid for the Pre Plus I have to say that I was a VERY strong Palm hater back in the day and let me tell you I am head over heels with my Pre Plus.

I love how fresh the UI is and the over all look of the Pre is amazing. I am extremely happy I made the jump!

I'm not sure if this was unintentional or not but either way this is funny. iPhone has always been notorious for having reception issues in big cities. I owned an iPhone in both Seattle and Boston and in both "rural" areas the iPhone had huge reception problems. And now I'm on a Pre with Sprint and loving it.

Anyway, glad to hear you're making the switch. Remember that on Sprint the Eris is known as the Hero, and you'll find lots of info on the forums here. Here are some other threads to help you decide:

ill never use ATT ever again. the dropped calls were incredible. How can a company advertise a phone that does not work as a phone? I will also probably never use an apple product again either (except if there is someday a verizon iphone). but since it appears that Jobs has lost his mind (ipad are you kidding me? who would lug that piece of garbage aroudn in addition to a cell phone and laptop?), verizon iphone will be screwed up in some fashion.

Anyhow - android is just really disorganized and has some annoying things but scared of pre a bit buy the odd size? I stuff phones in my pocket but the thickness scares me a bit.

    Pocketable?

Totally pocketable. No other smartphone of this caliber has fit in my pocket well along with my wallet. Until the Pre! It fits well in your hand too and just feels nice.

if anyone cares...i went ahead and plunked down my cash. I def. like it more than android in terms of useability. some things to get used to but 24 hours in i am content and liking it.

Got totally lost trying to set up tethering but got many of the other hacks in place ok. Still some bonehead stuff in it though...most glaring of all (unless i am missing something)....is not displaying names when you dial the number keypad...that is pretty basic stuff. i really like using the slider as little as possible and navigating to contacts takes too long. Is there some app/patch that fixes this?
