I used a WriteRight for a while on my Visor Deluxe, but eventually gave it up because (a) it dimmed the visibility a tad and (b) the only places I seemed to make scratches was on the Graffiti area, which isn't visible.

I eventually went to just putting a piece of Scotch Removable Magic Tape (#811 -- remember the number!) over the Graffiti area.

Now, however, having an more expensive color Clie PDA, I'm wondering if I should reconsider. For those with color PDAs: what's your opinion? (I'm particularly curious about experiences with Brando's semi-permanent screen protectors.)

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff Meyer

I use a Brando on my CLIE 760. I highly recommend it.

The Clie` screen is too soft (much softer than the Deluxe), you need a screen protector or it will be scratched up within a few weeks! I use the WriteRight and it is fine, although I have not need to replace it yet.

I know this topic (specifically Brando protectors) has also been discussed on Clie` Source and palmblvd.com. There was a review done on www.the-gadgeteer.com too.
No more rhymes...and this time I mean it!

Get it! Don't go cheap on a screen protector, your PDA needs it and you know it. Invest in one, and you won't regret it. On my 710 Clie, the screen got stratched soooo easy. Get it before something happens, you'll be happy you did. Plus the Brandos make the screen feel wayyy better and graffiti easier

When I had my Visor Deluxe I used WriteRights for it and loved them.

Once I upgraded to the Prism I continued to use WriteRights, only I switched to the ones made for Color Devices.

Once I got my CLIE 760, I used the Color WriteRights for a while, but it was not a good fit because they were to big. Instead of buying the correct WriteRights I decided to go for the Brando. I had heard so much about them I had to give it a try. I ended up buying two, one for me and one for my Dad's 760.

I loved it from the start. It has been on for months and I have not removed it or noticed the first scratch of any kind.

It does add a very, very slight haze, but no more so than any other screen protector. I would highly recommend it.

    My theory on screen protectors:

You'll be occasionally a little sorry if you use one--when I've replaced them it's like I get a whole new Handheld with a sharp screen.

Your be Permancetly Very Sorry if you don't use one--the scratch will happen.

Better to lose a shade of brilliance than to risk permanent unhappiness. think of it like insurance, sure, you'd be happy and carefree with that extra cash--but accidents will happen.

heck--I'll be putting a screen protector on the Treo, despite the fact that it has a built-in protective cover. If nothing else, it keeps my greasy fingerprints off the screen.

..as for brand, whatever floats your boat. I've been happy with Writewrites and (gasp) companionlink.

get the brando, even though its a bit expensive for 1 protector, this baby doesnt scratch fade or anything. ive had it on since christmas, and i love it. has a nice texture to it too...

The Brando rocks.....my wife just got her for her Edge and it's great. I was holding out on ordering a 2nd (because of price) until I was sure I liked it.

It feels great when writing, almost can't tell it's there (until you pull it off and compare) and from what I've read it lasts forever. Spend the $12 and get it......cliesource.com has them for the Clies.....unfortunately they pay Warman's BS licensing fee.

Thank you all for your opinions; and actually, I already have the Brando -- I just haven't applied it yet. I was a little concerned about getting rid of its adhesive off the screen if I decided I didn't like it (or had to return the Sony for some godawful reason).

However, having seen the amount of thumbs-up praise for it here and over on The Gadgeteer, I'll do it. I've printed up advise for putting on the Brando, and will read up on it before the "operation".

I may wait until Saturday, however -- I've heard it might take a bit of time to do right.

on my first try it was fine, dont worry about it and there wont be problems...i used to worry about my screen being all sharp and fine...until i was cleaning it for the third time in a week and i cought a small sharp nick of wood on the towel i was using...thank god i didnt wipe it across the screen...pop on the brando and dont worry, its safe.

I got the Brando on the first try...it was very easy. As for the adhesive....I wouldn't call it that...I'd say it's more tacky....and I wouldn't think it would come off on the screen at all.

    Enjoy it!

I bought my Clie from Best Buy with a 2 year service plan for like 9 bucks. What this means is when it gets scratched to the point that I want a new one I walk into the store with my current one and walk out with a new one no questions asked.

In a surge of spunk, I put the Brando on this morning (before I'd even shaved or shower). To quote Monty Python: "That was easy!"

Went on extremely smoothly, no bubbles, no lint (thanks to a Brain Wipe beforehand). My only problem was that the little white tab used to remove the backing from the Brando protector ripped off. No problem -- I cut a tiny corner off and removed the backing that way. (Came up with that idea without coffee. Today I Am A Man.)

Having used WriteRights with my VDX, I have to completely agree with those who have discussed the Brando's visibility -- I do not detect any increase in fuzziness at all on the T615C with the Brando on it; in fact, I'd argue it's better -- less glare.

The only thing I might put forward is that the screen is a tad less bright -- but I'd need to remove the Brando to compare, and having got it on, I'm reluctant to take it off.

Gonna go to ClieSource and order a couple more. Great item -- thanks for the advice!

PS Actually, I did buy the BestBuy Protection Plan for the Clie -- but not for screen wear-and-tear, but because I've had other Sony "consumer electronics" give out during the first year, and I wanted to be covered.

Has anyone else here walked into BestBuy with a scratched-up screen and gotten an exchange using the Protection Plan?

...until they discontinue the model or decide that you have cost them enough that they buy you out of the plan. (I do not know that plan specifically, but most such plans have a provision to allow the issuer to buy you out of it- often for a lot less than we would want it to be), or some other loophole kicks in.

Stores do not sell these plans because they loose money on them- the store will come out ahead.

Besides, to me this is a classic 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' scenarios. A simple cost-effective screen protector is well worth the hassle of driving out ot the Best Buy when my screen gets the invariable scratches.

I used a screen protector on it for a while and always had one on my VDX and Neo but now with the Clie the protector distorts it so much that it is not worth it.

I had the same experience with my VDX and WriteRights -- the distortion was significant enough that it didn't seem worth the protection. But with the new T615C, I've got a bigger investment in the screen (and the visibility).

However, I have to say that I've been converted with the Brandos on my Clie -- they really don't cut down on the visibility or readability at all. Definitely an order of magnitude better than other screen protectors.

You have to make sure you are using screen protectors for Color PDA's. If you are using normal WriteRights on a Color Device the distortion is unreal.

Try the Brando or WriteRights made for Color Devices. They work very well.

When you said CLIE, I just assumed you meant color. Based on your use of Screen Protectors on the Visors, I figured you had upgraded to color and were using the same protectors.

    Which CLIE do you have?

I have a PEG-S320. I guess posting in a color thread leads to confusion. I want a T-615C but will wait until Palm OS 5 and Strongarm.
