if you now register as a developer for the google android platform for $25, it allows you to buy a completely unlocked Google Android phone, the G1, for $400

I am actually interested in this since I think the google platform is cool, and getting an unlocked device is neat...

also tmobile coverage for 3g in the area is not so great, whereas ATT is rumored to be much better

any one have any ideas on how to get a SIM card from ATT for just the service?

or I guess register a pay as you go pay just to check and see how the device performs before going into something more long term...

I was thinking of the same thing. I dont think you'll get data at 3G speeds. Scroll down to post #18.

actually look at posts #19 and #21. I think the 3G frequency usage is different between TMo and ATT, so you will only get GPRS (maybe Edge) speeds with AT&T
