Anyway, the National Vulnerability Database says there were 22 medium to high severity for Firefox in 2008 so far, and only 6 for Internet Explorer. (BTW, Safari had 13)
Again, unlike Safari/WebKit and Firefox/Mozilla, Microsoft's engine isn't open source and isn't open to public scrutiny, so Microsoft tech will *always* have fewer reported bugs.

(And I liked Surur's title, though he could also have gone with "In ur AirBookz can has prize money?")

Yes, the PWN 2 OWN competition really should be named differently, should'nt it. Why dont you go over there and let the organisers know your opinion.

One of the recent bugs in the safari browser was for the URL bar. I dont believe that part is open source. Hackers dont pore over code these days. They decompile and subject code to automated stress testing called fuzzing.

Dont care. You created the topic and also used it in another post. Really lame.

Looks like WebKit is already pushing a fix:

Wow, this thread has really opened my eyes. Maybe it's my naivety but I honestly had no idea that there were Windows fanboys. How embarrassing for them!

I offered you a bet....twice that you can't back up your statements....twice you backed down. I put the offer on the table, you had to either take it and provide support for your argument or back down .... you backed down.

I don't have an strong interest in the topic, I don't have to be interested in say Burger King to get annoyed with a constant barrage of annoying, stupid commercials. Like many others I am just tired of reading the lambasts and puffery of a techno-bigot.

Let's not forget MS has redefined counting in several ways:

-After XP came out, each sale of Win2k was recorded as a XP sale with a Win2k downgrade.
-After Vista came out, each sale of XP was recorded as a XP sale with a XP downgrade.
-Each Windows vulnerability is listed as 1 vulnerability. So a vulnerability that affects NT, Win2k, XP Pro, XP Home, XP 64Vista Basic, Vista Home, Vista Premium, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, (And all the 64 bit Vista versions) is listed as one vulnerability.
-Each Linux, or competing browser vulnerability is listed once for each operating system it appears on. Each Linux vulnerability is listed once for each different distribution of Linux.
-MS rolls up several vulnerabilities into one patch and it's listed as 1 patch.
-Linux / Mozilla vulnerabilities are all listed and counted separately.

Looks like Linux is the only one standing:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03...left_standing/

"CanSecWest A laptop running a fully patched version of Microsoft's Vista operating system was the second and final machine to fall in a hacking contest that pitted the security of Windows, OS X and Ubuntu Linux. With both a Windows and Mac machine felled, only the Linux box remained standing following the three-day competition."

... in any case... I will always stand by my theory that any operating system designed for the desktop will be less secure than Unix-like OS's like macos, bsd, or linux. Where they get in trouble is with the goop added on for desktop users (like browsers, clients, etc.). Still, the plumbing is better and one would hope they will eventually work the kinks out.

In the end, if it takes a month to hack vista and 10 seconds to hack OS X, vista is still "less secure" because there's much more of a chance someone will actually exploit the hack. One can do far more damage/reap more rewards with a vista hack. Neither OS gives me the warm fuzzies, however.

No puffery in my posts. I'm have backed up everything I said.....you backed out twice. I wouldn't have been able to make those 3 posts if you'd taken and won the bet. Under the terms, I'd be off TC for a year. But, as we all know, you didn't take the bet because you couldn't support any of your claims .... and giving up your trolling privileges for a year would be just too much.

And where's your "Vista Pwned" thread ? Don't feel the same urge to crow to the world when your messiah gets busted ?
