    After seeing how useful the job advert spotting was in keeping an eye on Palm (and we still did not predict the Fooleo) I have been doing the same with Nokia, and have just received this job description:

    Software Development Manager

    Position Description:

    General Purpose

    Manages people in an R&D organisational unit; competence area or cost centre. Participates in formulating the strategy for the unit/area or centre and is responsible for implementing it. Is responsible for the implementation of a project portfolio within the scope of responsibility . Has final planning responsibility for the unit/area/centre. Has individual responsibility for goalsetting; operations; resourcing; results and competence development of the unit/area/centre as a whole. Provides input to significant business decisions. Ensures that the line organisation and the various projects work in harmony with each other.

    Main Responsibility Areas

    Provides technical leadership for staff and work teams or task forces, particularly on emerging areas within specialised functional or process areas. Coordinates the delivery of client service (internaland/or external clients) to maintain client satisfaction and identify performance gaps as well as new or emerging needs. Responsible for analysis, design & development of policies, plans, programs. Acts with independence and discretion. Develops appropriate solutions.

    Impact

    Impact is short-term through individual and team contributions. Scope is primarily within own subject area in a function/unit. Actions and errors impact on program, project or function.

    Requirements:

    5+ years developing for Microsoft Windows

    2+ years developing for Microsoft Windows Mobile and/or Palm OS

    Experience managing multiple software project teams and team leads

    Demonstrated success bringing in multiple projects on time on aggressive schedules while balancing customer needs and sales requirements

    Leader capable of working with distributed project teams, cultivating a vision of success and motivating/inspiring teams to achieve that vision.

    Business Unit Description:

    Manager of the Windows and Palm OS development group in Alpharetta working on Mobile Suite.

    Interesting? I have always felt Nokia should have a WM string to their bow, much like Palm does, and this may be the start of that, especially in USA, where Nokia is weak and PalmOS and WM strong, much unlike the rest of the world.

    Dang, if it wernet for the develpoment side of this posting, I might have found something neat to do. Nokia has been in the US for a while, they are really ramping things up though as they are having more carrier issues than they care to let out.

    A little bit of research makes it clear this job posting is related to intellisync, which now belongs to Nokia and is based in Alpharetta. No real news then, as they supported PalmOS and WM for a long time now.
