Looking back from godzillions of HTC devices they have announced over the last few years (with codenames that wildly range from unpronnounceable to weird), how many have they really sold in the US?

In 2005, it was basically Wizard/Apache/6700 and nothing else. This year, it's the successor TYTN which HTC have basically made ten thousand cosmetic variants of. And then there is Dash. I would argue the Dash is a bigger engineer feat for HTC if not for the fact that TYTN was the first HSDPA device. TYTN to me has made some compromise.

So my question is, is there any way to tell from the 10s of HTC announced prototypts, which one or two will actually come out for the mobile carriers in 2007?

HTC made phones that were sold by Cingular in 2006:

    Audiovox SMT 5600 aka ??Typhoon??
    Cingular 2125 aka ??Tornado??
    Cingular 8125 aka Wizard
    Cingular 3125 aka Strtrk
    Cingular 8525 aka Hermes
    Treo 650
    Treo 680

HTC made phones sold by T-Mobile in 2006:

Roughly the same as above minus the Treos and 8525 but plus the Dash aka Excalibur.

HTC made phones sold by Sprint and Verizon:

    PPC-6700/XV-6700 aka Apache
    Treo 700P
    Treo 700w
    Treo 700wx

    Additionally, HTC sells internationally.

I'm sure I'm missing some as I am doing this by memory. (plus one-handed, while driving, and with my Blackjack) 8)

I forgot to answer your question. I would expect practically every prototype you see to be made. Usually by the time the prototype info is leaked it's because they are already starting to get close to production. Whether or not they are carried by US cell carriers is another thing.

As far as Cingular is concerned, what's coming out now is pretty much all that'll be coming out most of 2007. I'm pretty sure info will be leaked on the successors of these phone by middle or late next year and will be for sale in 2008.

Of course the Treo 750 should be dropping in to your local Cingular store soon.

Sorry for the successive posts but there is no simple way to edit posts on the mobile forum. :/

Actually the 680 is made by Inventec not HTC.

You can't count the Treo because if you do you will have to count every iPaq Loox and Axim ever made. Not to mention the 680 and 700p aren't made by them.

And you know what I meant by "HTC devices".

BTW I wanted to include the keyboard-less HTC phones but their naming convention is so confusing I only remember SDA.

And I am pretty sure their GPS phones wont see any US release.

My bad, I didn't realize the newer treos are not made by HTC.

Anyway, I can't think of 1 HTC prototype that hasn't eventually been released. There may be some, I just can't think of any off the top of my head. Maybe Surur can?

Actually the 700p, w, wx are made by HTC, but the 680 isn't (but the 750v is made by HTC).

Why do people keep saying that.

Maybe because the 700p was in stores in early June and the dumb article talkes about not starting volume production until September? There lots of sources that show that HTC started producing the 700p. Inventec may or may not have started producing it later.

Well that article said both companies made the 700p. We are both right then. : )

The HTC Muse/Melody (leaked, but not announced) never saw the light of day, and is sorely missed. It may even have missed its time to shine, as 4GB storage is available in SD form factor in any case these days, and there is plenty of music phones out from other sources now. It would have been great in early 2006 however

Some devices undergo design changes which make them less desirable, e.g. the HTC Trinity looked very sleek in the original renderings, but look pretty blah to me currently.

The HTC Omni, the HTC Universal successor, is rumoured to have been canceled, which is rather sad. I dont really understand why, because the HTC Universal is quite a successful device, which I see a lot in the street

Otherwise, jlczl is right. The vast majority of devices leaked regarding HTC make it to the market, and of course all the ones the actually announce do. The US market of course dont see all of them, since most are GSM, and some are too advanced for the US market (primarily the GPS ones, for which the US market has no support yet)

    Surur
