I'm thinking of getting the 8525 as my second phone. Does anyone know if the phone requires the TeleNav GPS receiver to work on the Cingular system.
Two Cingular reps told me not needed, but I think they are mistaken.

    Thanks.

So you can get verbal directions using Telnav on the 8525 without the bluetooth receiver?

No, to use navi you need a GPS receiver. Cannot use the internal one.

Very frustrating. One says yes, one says no.
Does anyone actually have the phone using GPS?

    Thanks.

you don't need the Cingular GPS receiver, but you need an actual GPS receiver to use it.

Its not worth getting because the 8525 screen is small and the speaker is a slot around the lens. I have the telenav gps and 8525 they down laod the maps as you go. It cost 9.95 month for unlimited trips with telenav. The direction are slow to respond.

deadphotomac, thanks for the heads up. I'll probably take your advice. Just for curiosity sake at this point - I take it you do need the Telenav GPS for it to work?

    Thanks much.

I returned the 8525 within 30 days (had it for maybe 20 days), and still got charged $108. I guess this is becaues I had the unlimited data plan 39.99 and the 39.99 voice plan.

Yikes, and I thought I could try out the phone for free for 30 days.

I just returned the 8525 as well. Great PDA, but the phone features are terrible. I don't like not having a keyboard available full time. I picked up the Blackjack. Try that for a while to see if I like it. I had the Q, so I am already used to WM5 Smartphone.

Is the lack of an always available keyboard the only reason that you guys got rid of the 8525? I was considering trading my 6915 for one and just getting an external GPS to leave in the car all of the time but I want to know if it would be worthwhile first. I will not be switching to Cingular, rather I would unlock it and use it on T-Mobile, so the 3g isn't a big deal to me. Everything else is though...

Since I have always had a keyboard available, moving to a device that didn't have one was kind of tough. I thought I would get used to it. I was frustrated looking up contacts to dial. I did installed every hack, etc. out there to make it work and it was fine, but at the end of the day was still kind of frustrating. Especially while in the car.

try voice command....microsoft works weel...outside....and in the car.
If not...certainly hitting the contacts tab and scrolling to your needed name is easier than typing it in on the 750 (say while driving)...
and scrolling on the 8525 is easier than srolling on the 750 to your contact a) simply cause you can
find spot it easier with the bigger screen...and b)theres a scroll wheel if needed.
YES...of course when one MUST use one handed typing.treos are easier....but the VAST majority of the time we use 2thumb typing on the treos (cause its faster)....which makes the slide-out whining a mute point.

I went back to the 8525. The Blackjack was not cutting it. It wasn't WM5 Smartphone as I had that on my previous Moto Q. Voice Command is actually a good way. Does the updated MS Voice Command 1.6 work on the 8525? I did see a thread. I will have to spin through the thread on it.
