F.Y.I. (yea I did a quick search on TC but didn't find it so I'm posting it here)

I got Google Maps and Gmail to work by following the hack linked below:

NOTE: the link for the j9 cab file is not active on the first post. For the j9 cab file use this link for post # 186 http://www.howardforums.com/showpost...&postcount=186

    Hi!

Reading the posts here, I figure that many of you have successfully
migrated contacts from your treo to the blackjack.

I just got a new blackjack, and before I start transferring stuff
I thought I would ask here if there are any gotchas I should watch out for,
or special hacks I would need to do that?

It would be great if someone (Dalai Lama, mrjasjit, jlczl ?) can post a list of
steps they went through, or point to a site where such steps are listed.

    Thanks!

Did you sync your contacts from your Treo to Outlook or Palm Desktop? If you were using Outlook, just install activeSync 4.2 on your PC and plug in the BJ. If you used Palm Desktop, you will want to transfer your Contacts to Outlook first. Palm does not provide the easiest way to do this-- I ended up saving my contacts as a aba file, uploading that file to Yahoo Address Book (which can import Palm data files), then re-exporting my contacts as a CSV file that Outlook can import.

Yup.. That's all I did. Much easier than working with Palm apps, I'm afraid...

My phone contacts are on the sim, so I didn't have to do anything special.

Just added Facade and FizzTraveler...going to be customizing home screen, etc...

I am using "Automatic Keylock", which is great as a work-around for the goofy key unlock sequence that the Blackjack has.
My settings for Automatic Keylock are:
Have Line 1 set for Digital Clock @ 100 pixels.
Have Line 2 set for Date @ 90 pixels.
Line 3 is set for Missed Calls and Messages @ 30 pixels.

I am also using GMail and GoogleMaps, for which I had started a thread. It is a hack to get onto the Blackjack, look here http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...8&postcount=41.

Otherwise I had a thread that I started with a quick review (by me) when I was considering whether or not to keep the Blackjack. Of course I did end up keeping it and so far am glad I did. It has its quirks, but for me (mostly an entertainment user) it is a good fit.

That "review" thread can be found here http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=131663

    That's all for now.

Thanks! I am using Palm desktop right now. I think we can write out
a csv from palm desktop too.

    More questions:

Which bluetooth headset are you guys using with the Blackjack?
    Any recommendations there?

Any special tricks for voice dialing?
I read somewhere that you can even launch apps using voice commands.

My mistake. After browsing various forums, I now know that
BJ does not have voice dialing.

Installing Microsoft voice command ($39) on the phone
should provide that function, but it is broken (see below). It might
work with a wired headset. I am disappointed.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...d/default.mspx says:

    Samsung BlackJack from Cingular
Voice Command 1.6 bluetooth functionality does not work properly on the Samsung Blackjack. It is not possible to initiate a voice command interaction using the headset, and it is not possible to receive audio announcements through the headset on this device.

FYI, Non-Treo WMobile fans can check out our new blog and forum, at www.wmexperts.com.

i think the new blog and forum is a great idea. is this meant to help people away from this "other handhelds, other devices" forum? many of us are Treo owners/previous owners and have grown to like it here.

    best success nonetheless

The forums are integrated, so a lot of them are shared (including Other Handhelds) between the sites. You shouldn't miss your friends.

A friend recently got a Samsung Blackjack and is wondering how and where to go to install new 3rd party apps. For example, Palmgear.com has tons of apps for the Treo. Does the same exist for the Blackjack? Thanks, Casey.
