I'm really considering getting the BlackJack but tell me something....

Does the BlackJack have pocket word and excel on it? I went to the local Cingular store and tinkered with it but couldn't find Pocket Word or Excel. I did find something called Pascal but it looked like an imaging viewer.

For those who have bought this phone or are more familiar, how do you view documents?

blackjack runs the MS Smartphone 2005 OS. it doesnt have pocket word or excel. only a viewable app that lets you read those type files.

I have the Samsung SGH-i320N. I suspect it might be similar to this Blackjack thing. Mine is running Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphone, and has Picsel Viewer builtin, which allows you to read office documents. It's a neat phone, though the battery life is a bit short.

You can always by an app to do full office support. I forget what it is called, but it is at pocketgear.com for about $40...

I don't think there are office editing apps for smartphone edition. I suppose you could use VNC to update a file on a host pc.

You can edit Spreadsheets with PTab for the Smartphone. No other Office editing programs I'm aware of though.

you should be aware of the difference of Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone vs. PocketPC Phone Edition. Both get direct push of outlook although smartphone is missing a few things in comparison to the PPC Phone edition. also, smartphone typically only has viewers for office products, not the more complete versions that are on ppc phone edition. I look at smartphone edition as a blackberry with more features and power, while the ppc phone edition is more of a mini computer & phone. Microsoft has not done a good job of differentiating these 2 for the average consumer. you should definitely read up more about the 2 before buying one...just so you have the right expectations.

As far as my needs, the only thing that is lacking from my Blackjack is a document editor. I didn't think it was a major issue so I opted for the Blackjack instead of the 8525.

How do you like the Blackjack? I was looking at it in a store and was tempted. My biggest concern was that the screen wouldn't be big enough for web browsing. But the size is nice and the build quality on the demo model fealt good. Is yours really solid? Anything about it you don't like?

I ended up buying the Blackjack after going to the Cingular store because it was small and packed with good features and it was 3G. I couldn't wait anymore for Palm to release the new Treo....

I ended up getting the Treo 680. I liked the BlackJack but liked the 680 better. However, I don't think you can go wrong with the BlackJack.

It's thinner, the screen (while smaller) is alright for viewing, and once you get used to the Windows Mobile software it should be easy to navigate through.

Two things kept me with the Treo. The BlackJack's battery life isn't well reviewed and the familiarity with Palm OS.

I purchased the BlackJack as well, moving from the 650. Nice features and form factor. I do like some of the intuitive things that the Treo offers and want to look at the 750 as well.

Is anyone aware of a third-party app that would allow me to sync Lotus Notes instead of Outlook with the BJ?

    Thanks!

Commontime makes something to sync with Lotus Notes.

It is very solid. Great feel both hardware and software wise. Battery life was great (just used the primary battery and not the spare) until I arrived in San Antonio for a vacation weekend. Reason being that SA has deployed here but hasn't where I'm from (Rio Grande Valley). The 3G radio is definitely the battery wasting culprit. Even then I wasn't stranded with a dead phone, just swapped to my 2nd battery.
