    Mossberg, Wall Street Journal:

"The 320x240 resolution on the Q's screen is 25% lower than that of the Treo 700p, which has a 320x320-resolution screen. Many things -- Web sites, photos, attachments -- just didn't look as good on the Q compared side-by-side with the Treo."

    Pogue, NY Times:

"You have never seen so spectacular a screen. It's a triumph of brightness and clarity. Its extra width makes it feel much more spacious than the Treo 700P's, despite having lower resolution (the Q's is 320 by 240 pixels)."

I guess we'll need the Washington Post for the tiebreaker.

Has anyone done a Q vs. 700p personal review?

So far it seems to me to be Form vs. Function but I have not handled either.

I have compared them side by side in a Sprint store (My Q vs. the Sprint 700p) IMO, the Q is a better looking screen. The graphics are sharper, the text looks better.

After having used the Treo650 for 15 months my first reaction upon getting the Q last week was WOW, screen is nicer. After playing with the Q for 24 hours and then going to a Sprint store and comparing the Q side by side with a 700p, my reaction was "WOW, Q is better".

It's hard to explain without looking at them side by side. I just don't agree with Mossberg.

I understand what you're saying seaflipper. It is hard to explain. I have a Cingular 8125 that has 240X320 screen and I think it has a much nicer screen than the 650 despite the lower res. I don't know what it is but it seems much sharper, clearer, easier to read and better colors. I haven't seen the Q but I imagine it has a nice screen too.

It might have something to do with the fact that WM devices use "sub pixel font rendering" (clear type). That does make a big improvement to the screen...

I'm not a tech expert but the Q has a beautiful screen. I have the Q and the 8125 and the Q wins hands down. I used to have the 650 and I would call it a draw between the 650 and the Q.

I saw a photo online comparing a Q side-by-side with a Treo. I loaded it into Paint Shop Pro and overlaid the Q screen on top of the Treo screen and it looked like the physical width of the screen was identical. So the Treo has a real advantage in terms of screen real estate.

BTW, if you own a Treo and envy WM's sub-pixel rendering, you should get FontSmoother. It's not sub-pixel rendering but simply antia-aliased fonts, but it definitely improves the Treo experience IMO.
Now THIS is the future of smartphones.

And I felt the exact opposite. This just goes to show "to each his own" I guess. Different people see different things.

Also, Windows devices use TrueType fonts, which makes text look more natural, and the interface was originally designed for the resolution, whereas the Treo's interface was adapted from 160 x 160, which makes certain text sizes larger than they need to be.

I honestly would stick with 700P.. Being that the Q has no touchscreen and you cannot also edit documents I would stick it out with 700P... Would of been nice if they went with pocketpc rather than smartphone and wifi on top of that.

Hmm.. check on that becuase the WM Smartphone edition OS was originally designed for a much smaller resolution as well...160x something or another ...I should know... i have one of those older smartphones but dont remember exactly what it was
